Animals from the Barnwell County Animal Shelter will be available for adoption at the Tractor Supply in Barnwell starting at noon on Saturday, Sept. 14. Some of the animals can be seen on WAGT 26 morning news show. There will also be a bake sale and collection of any nonperishable food items (can food, mashed potatoes, macaroni and cheese, etc.) to the list to be given to the Axis 1 Center in Barnwell for Allie Padgett, S.C. Community Queen and S.C. Teen Miss Heart of the USA.
Freedom Fund Dinner

The American Cancer Society invites cancer patients in Barnwell, Bamberg, Allendale or Hampton counties to signup for the Look Good Fell Better session on Monday, Sept. 16. This free session will be held at the Barnwell City Hall at 6 p.m.
Cosmetology professionals will help patients with makeup application, tips for wig selection and wig care, dry skin, discolored nails, scarves, turbans and hats.

Third Thursday returns Sept. 19 from 5-7 p.m. in downtown Barnwell with entertainment by V&N Entertainment (Virginia Nettles and Neal Richardson).

In partnership with the United Way, a health fair will be held. Several local medical groups will have health information and some will provide simple health checks, like blood pressure.
A Bike Rodeo will be held Saturday, Sept. 21, from 9 a.m. to noon at Snelling Park. All ages can bring their bikes. There will be bike safety and fit checks, bike safety presentation, bike obstacle course, and goodie bags.

The 2013 Hilda Gopher Festival will kick off Friday, Sept. 20, at 6:30 p.m. with a street dance and other entertainment at the Hilda Depot. It continues Saturday, Sept. 21, from 9 a.m. until 6:30 p.m. at the depot.
There will be a bake sale at 9 a.m., a "Decorate Your Trike, Bike, Wagon" contest to be judged at 10 a.m., parade at 11 a.m., and entertainment on the depot for all at 1 p.m. (including "Best Dressed Hat" contest, cake walk, local entertainment with dancing, singing, etc.). There will also be a jumping house with a slide and other children games for the children. Raffle tickets will be on sale for a seasonal wreath and a Clemson and Carolina yard sign. Concessions will be available.
The Barnwell County Chamber of Commerce will hold its Annual Meeting on Monday, Sept. 23, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Southern Carolina Business Center (1750 Jackson St., Barnwell). The chamber will announce the recipients of its Annual Awards at this meeting. All chamber members are invited to attend.
Chemo with Style
Hospice Care of Tri County sponsors Chemo With Style, a free program available to women who are undergoing cancer or other treatments which result in hair loss. Classes are held monthly at Imago Salon (215 Richland Ave., Aiken) from 5:30 - 7 p.m. on Sept. 23, Oct. 28 and Nov. 25.
During the program, local merchants and volunteers teach and fit each individual with a wig, showing creative ways to wear different head wear and offer personal appearance tips.

Pick Up with Pride, a community clean-up campaign, will be held Saturday, Sept. 28 from 8 a.m. to noon. Meet on the Circle in downtown Barnwell to sign in and pick up any supplies. Trucks are needed to help pick up trash bags.

Christian Business Ventures
Christian Business Ventures will host a three-day fundraiser Sept. 27 to 29 in Blackville. Food and crafters are invited to set up for a small fee. Friday will feature blue grass country gospel sing under the big tent from 6 to 8 p.m. On Saturday, there will be bikers open road ride from 10 a.m. to noon, hog pickin', biker's show from noon to 2 p.m., auction, supper, entertainment, and more. On Sunday, a carry in pot luck under the big tent will be held with local entertainment.
Day in the Country 5K
Team Zeta will hold A Day in the Country 5K race on Saturday, Oct. 26 beginning and ending at Twitty's Mud Bog (Hwy. 321 between Ulmer and Sycamore). Proceeds will support Team Zeta as they support special needs children and their families.
Costumed runners and decorated strollers and wheelchairs are encouraged to attend the 5K at 9 a.m. An awards ceremony will begin at 10:15 a.m. for male/female winners in different age categories. Wheelchair and stroller participants will receive a ribbon. The K-12 school with the most participation will receive an award for their special needs department.
Food, vendors and music will also be available.

The Local Artist of the Month for September is The Art Studio's students. This art will be displayed all month with the Meet & Greet on Sunday, Sept. 22 from 3 to 5:30 p.m.
The Fuller House Focus Gallery's newest exhibit is the "Back to School" features artifacts from the early 1800s until the present day. This exhibit will be showing until November.

Eat Smart Move More Barnwell County has received funding to partner with faith-based organizations in Barnwell County on implementing 100 percent tobacco-free policies for their facilities and grounds. The implementation of this tobacco-free policy will have a large impact and benefit the overall health of your congregation.
ESMMBC will provide information and education on the harms associated with tobacco use and secondhand smoke for your key leaders and congregation members. Each faith-based organization that adopts and implements a 100% Tobacco-free policy will receive a $500 stipend.
