I have heard it said that "common sense ain't that common." Often times, everyday life seems to confirm that statement.
That is not God's plan for us, however. It is clear throughout God's Word that He desires for us to have godly wisdom. In fact, God's Word tells us how to develop godly wisdom and knowledge. Proverbs 1:7 tells us that "the fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge."
So, in order to be wise and to have knowledge, we must first learn to fear God. Now, what exactly does it mean to fear God? Does it mean that we have an irrational fear of Him? No! To fear God means to respect and revere Him. God is therefore teaching us that before we can properly learn anything else in life, we must first learn to respect and honor Him! Once we have respect and honor for God, everything else will fall into place.
Jesus agreed, stating "but seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you." Honoring God and putting Him first truly is the beginning of wisdom!
