First responders work the scene of this wreck at the intersection of HWY 278 and Seven Pines Road Oct 7. Six people were injured in the wreck, including an infant.
Williston Fire Chief Milton Widener said a car and a truck wrecked near the intersection of Seven Pines Road and Hwy. 278 in the late afternoon hours Monday.
He said six people were transported to area hospitals. Five of those transported, including one infant, were in the Chevrolet car and one was in the truck.
The driver of the car was transported by helicopter, Widener said, as his injuries appeared to be "more critical."
Elko Fire Department set up a landing zone just outside of Williston for the helicopter to land. Fire crews were on the scene of the accident for just over one hour, he said.
The S.C. Highway Patrol is investigating the accident but no report was available as of press time.
The SCHP is also investigating another accident that occurred early Sunday morning, Oct. 6.
A passerby called 911 after midnight to report an overturned car on Juniper Road off Hwy. 64 near the Barnwell and Bamberg County line. The caller saw blood inside the car, but did not see anyone around, according to transmissions from Barnwell County Emergency Dispatch.
Friendship firefighters, the SCHP and EMS responded, but no victims were located.
"The driver is still unknown at this time," said Lance Cpl. Judd Jones with the SCHP. He said there were no passengers in the car.
Jones said the 2002 Chevy SUV appeared to have gone off the left side of the roadway before coming back across the other side and overturning.
