The Jefferson Davis Academy varsity volleyball team closed out its regular season on a high note last week with victories over Augusta Christian Academy and Patrick Henry Academy.
With the wins, Jefferson Davis Academy concludes the regular season at 7-7 in the standings.
"We came out focused with no distractions-the end result was two solid wins," JDA coach Bart Owens said. "If we would have played this way all year, there no telling how good we could have been. We came out in each match and fought hard all the way."
On Thursday during Senior Night, the Lady Raiders came from behind to score a five-set win over Patrick Henry Academy.
Down to the Lady Patriots two sets to one, the Lady Raiders never gave quitting a brief consideration.
Seniors Madison Bates and Jessica Owens got the troops fired up. The duo combined for 16 kills as the team prevailed in the final two sets.
JDA took the match with scores of 12-25, 25-23, 19-25, 25-14 and 15-10.
Bates played superbly during the final two matches with nine serving points, six kills, six digs and four assists. Owens was equally effective with seven serving points, six kills, four digs and two blocks.
Other seniors stepped up. Anna Griffin, who had a team leading 10 assists, registered six kills and two digs. Rachel Brown provided seven assists, four serving points and four digs.
Also playing well in the match were Blakley Johnson, Brittin Ray, Karaline Sandifer and Abbey Baltzegar.
Johnson tallied 13 serving points, four blocks and three assists. Ray had six serving points, three aces, four assists and three digs. Sandifer contributed seven serving points, four assists and two digs. Baltzegar added four serving points, two aces and five assists.
In other action, the Lady Raiders swept Augusta Christian Academy 3-0 Oct. 8 in Blackville.
The scoring for the match went 25-14, 25-18 and 25-16.
The top offensive players for the Lady Raiders were Blakley Johnson and Jessica Owens. Johnson, who racked up 14 serving points in set three, finished with 19 serving points, eight assists and four kills. Owens led the team with 14 points, four aces and five assists.
