Robert Lee "Shug" Cave, 67, of Kline, departed this life on Tuesday, Oct. 8, 2013, at his home.
Funeral service with Military Honors was held at 11 a.m., Oct. 12, at New Hope United Methodist Church in Allendale (Seigling Community), with the Rev. Joseph Abrams officiating. Burial followed in the Union United Methodist Church Cemetery.
Mr. Robert Lee "Shug" Cave was born on June 18, 1946, in Allendale. He was the son of Mr. McLain O'Berry Jr. and the late Henrietta Cave. He was reared by the late Rivannah and Hammie Creech.
He served in the U.S. Army from 1964 to 1967, with the 101st 82nd Airborne Paratroopers, a Vietnam veteran, where he obtained the rank of Spec-4, retiring with an honorable discharge. Robert was an avid lover of baseball, having pitched in the Military, playing for the Barnwell Braves as a pitcher, player, coach and umpire for the Metro-League.
He was a devoted father, grandfather, and friend. He retired from Milliken Industries after 23 years.
He was preceded in death by his darling wife of thirty-three years, Pearlie Mae Moore Cave; and a grandson, Jeremiah Paul Cave.
Robert leaves to cherish fond memories two sons, Russell Robert Wilkerson of Florida, and Robert Lee Cave II of Kline; one daughter, Kimberly Rene Cave of Kline; two brothers, William H. (Rose) Cave of Kline, and Darren (Kim) O'Berry of Connecticut; two sisters, Veronica (Hans) Stessenmeier of Germany and Patricia (Burnon) Parrish of West Hempstead, N.Y.; seven uncles, Adam Sanders and Joe (April) Sanders both of Kline, Cleo Sanders of Barnwell, George (Galation) Sanders of Brooklyn, N.Y., Cleo Sanders of Jacksonville, Fla., James (Earnestine) Creech of Maryland and V.W. (Daisy) Sanders of Kline; five aunts, Ronetta Odom of Barnwell, LouMicha (Andy) Johnson of Fairfax, Hassie Sanders of Barnwell, Shelley Alexander of Miami, Fla., and Frances (James) O'Berry of Houston, Texas; four grandchildren, Nasir Talik Cave-Jones, Noah Robert Lee Cave-Dunbar, Nehemiah Eric Cave-Albany and Nehion Eric Cave-Albany; one brother-in-law; four sisters-in-law; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Special recognition to Mr. Cave's Nurse Amanda Williams; helper/care takers Eric F. Albany and Nikasha Dicks; special thanks to his three special friends, whose friendship survived the many years, Mr. George (Hermenia) Creech, Mr. Henry (Bert) Simmons and Ms. Anna Lee Jones.
