The Lady Blue Devils of Williston-Elko High saved their best volleyball for their regular season finale.
Taking on Blackville-Hilda High, the Lady Blue Devils showed no signs of weakness, sweeping the Lady Hawks in a dual match Oct. 22 in Blackville.
The Lady Blue Devils overwhelmed their in-county rivals by scores of 25-7 and 25-10 in the first match. In the second match, the Lady Blue Devils prevailed by scores of 25-22 and 25-11.
Williston-Elko High coach Eva Strong said the team had the potential to perform at this level all season.
"I was pleased with the performance, but we should have been playing that well all along," Strong said.
"We did some nice things out there today. Our communication and ball movement was really good. We executed well with our serves and we were very strong defensively around the net."
In the first match, Mya Fagans was solid in all aspects of the game with 12 serving points, five kills, three blocks, two digs and two assists.
Alyssa Fail also had a strong game with 15 serving points, four assists and a dig.
Others scoring included Marissa Garrett, and Brooke Weatherford with six serving points each. Ciera Smith had seven assists and two blocks.
The top performers for the Lady Hawks were Dezeara Chavis, Deshannon James and Kayla Pate, each with six serving points.
In the second match, Alyssa Fail and Brooke Weatherford were the top hitters for the Lady Blue Devils. Fail was almost flawless with her serves, scoring 17 serving points out of 18 attempts. Weatherford posted a double-double with 12 serving points, 10 assists and four digs.
Others stepped up for the Lady Blue Devils. Mya Fagans tallied four blocks, six kills and two assists. Marissa Garrett provided eight serving points, four digs and two kills.
Mikki Raska registered four serving points and two digs. Ciera Smith had seven assists and two kills. Madi Williams added four digs and three assits. Caitlin Sweet contributed four serving points. Jamera Robinson, who wrapped up the final set with a kill shot, finished with two digs and an assist.
For the Lady Hawks, Emily McClary led with eight serving points and two assists. Also playing well were Taylor Brown, Alexis Isaac, Tyesha Mays, Jalesa Heyward and Bre'Niya Murray.
Brown finished with six serving points, four digs and three assists. Isaac had a team-leading six digs. Mays pitched in five points, three digs and three assists. Heyward and Murray each added four serving points.
