Water tower demolition expected to cause loud bang
There will be some crashing and banging Wednesday morning in Barnwell.
The city's water tower on the old Milliken plant property will be demolished in the early morning hours. The tank is expected to come down with a thundering crash around 7:30 a.m.
The city has released a statement about the demolition to give residents the heads up. The full statement is below.
From the Barnwell Fire Department:
Beginning at 5:00 a.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 4, 2013, demolition contractors will arrive on the Milliken site to remove the City's elevated water storage tank. It is expected at or around 7:30 a.m., pending no preparation difficulties, that the tank will be brought down by tipping and impacting the ground surface below.
Residents should expect to hear the sound of this impact as well as possible ground vibration in the area. Once the tank is down contractors will remain on site to cut the tank into smaller pieces for removal. No other significant noise or impact should be observed.
