A Barnwell inmate was pronounced dead earlier Thursday.
Barnwell County Coroner Lloyd Ward issued a press release around 7:30 p.m. indicating inmate Anthony Boatwright, 28, of Blackville, died at Southern Palmetto Hospital.
Boatwright was pronounced dead at 2:47 p.m., he said.
Ward said Boatwright was found unresponsive in his cell around 2:33 p.m. and was transported to the hospital.
There were no signs of trauma but an autopsy will be performed tomorrow to determine the cause and manner of death.
Boatwright had been serving time since July 25, the release indicates.
Boatwright's death is being investigated by the S.C. State Law Enforcement Division and the Barnwell County Coroner's Office.
