"For unto us a child is born..."
"Glory to God in the highest, And on earth peace among men with whom He is pleased."
Christmas. It's a time of year for celebrations and thanksgiving. It's also a time to find ‘peace among men.'
For there to be peace, there must be compromise.
Across the globe, there are great battles raging between good and evil each day.
Our Christmas wish is - let there be peace.
Although the battles may differ, in Barnwell County, there has been no peace the past few weeks.
Violence seems to creep into our peaceful community from all sides.
From two shootings, one which took the life of a 26-year-old man, to the senseless murder of a local doctor, each has left an indelible mark on residents. Evil is still among us.
Let there be peace.
There are political differences which pit people against each other. These differences often become heated, causing people to say and do things they often regret later. Politics often splits friends and families who previously cherished those relationships.
Let there be peace.
In the Christian faith, its followers are taught about a special birth, a true Prince of Peace.
Now there were in the same country shepherds living out in the fields, keeping watch over their flock by night. 9 And behold, an angel of the Lord stood before them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were greatly afraid. 10 Then the angel said to them, "Do not be afraid, for behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy which will be to all people. 11 For there is born to you this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord. 12 And this will be the sign to you: You will find a Babe wrapped in swaddling cloths, lying in a manger."
13 And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying:
14 "Glory to God in the highest,
And on earth peace, goodwill toward men!"
So as many celebrate Christmas, please work toward peace in all that you do.
We ask many to put aside their differences, work together to find solutions and work together to bring peace to Barnwell County.
Peace isn't always easy.
But it is always achievable when given the opportunity.
"... and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace."
