Funeral services for Mr. John Windfield Hammond, 47, of Allendale, were held at noon, Dec. 21, at the Miller Swamp Baptist Church in Sycamore. Burial followed in the church cemetery. Visitation was held on Dec. 20, at the Heritage Funeral Home of Allendale.
Brother John Windfield Hammond was the son of Mr. Willie Hammond Sr. and the late Mrs. Irene Faust Hammond. He was born May 27, 1967 in Allendale.
At an early age, he was baptized at the Miller Swamp Baptist Church of Sycamore. He was educated in the public schools of Allendale County and received a degree in welding from Denmark Technical College. He was employed at Collum Lumber Mill as an assistant supervisor/crew leader for 20 years.
On Monday evening, Dec.16, 2013, God in His infinite wisdom summoned Brother John W Hammond home to eternal rest at the Allendale County Hospital following a brief illness.
Brother John Hammond was preceded in death by his Mother, Irene; and his brother, Willie "Bubba" Hammond Jr.
John, as he was affectionately known, will be remembered for his love for gospel music, writing, reading, telling jokes, and watching television.
He leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Jacqueline Denise Best Curry Hammond of Cocoa, Fla.; four stepchildren, Freemel Best, Karlisha Dawson, Timquetta Parker, and Berniecey Glover, all of Cocoa, Fla.; his father, Mr. Willie Hammond Sr. of Allendale; three sisters, Bernice (Roosevelt) Carter, Pearlie Mae (Herman) Franklin, and Sara Ann (James) Hammond, all of Allendale three god-Children, Monifah Maner, Kenyasia Whosendove, and Quintin Megriff; seven aunts; three uncles; along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins other relatives and sorrowing friends.
Heritage Funeral Home of Allendale was in charge of arrangements.
