George H Smith, 85, of Williston, passed away on March 4, 2014.
Born Nov. 11, 1928, in Monticello, Fla., he was the son of George Henson and Martha Bunita Morrow Browning Smith.
He graduated from Blythewood High School and joined the U.S. Army Air Corps at the age of 17. He later served in the U.S. Army Reserve before retiring in 1988 as a Sergeant Major. Mr. Smith worked 37 years at the Savannah River Plant before retiring in 1989. He was a 32nd degree Scottish Rite Mason with the Hope Lodge 126 in Williston. Mr. Smith was a former member of Jamil Shrine and the American Legion. He was a member of the Williston First Baptist Church.
Surviving are two daughters, Bunny Smith (Randy) Richardson of Simpsonville, Brownie Smith (Bill) Hart of Blythewood; two grandsons, Adam D (Joanna) Hart of Columbia, Luke S. (Jenna) Hart of Lexington; sister, Margaret Smith Burley of Charleston; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Hair Smith; two sisters, Mamie Smith Anderson and Doris Browning Raines; and a brother, Everett Browning.
Funeral services were held at 11:30 a.m., March 8, at Folk Funeral Home in Williston with the Rev. John Burley officiating. Burial followed at the Williston Cemetery with Masonic Rites accorded. Visitation was held at 10 a.m. prior to the service at the funeral home. Pallbearers were nephews, Carroll Burley, George Burley, Ed Jones, Barry Jones, Tom Donehue and Ron Williamson as well as Danny Dunaway and Jerry Hair. Honorary pallbearers were members of the Hope Lodge 126 of Williston.

Folk Funeral Home Inc. and Crematory was in charge of arrangements.
