$5 Brown Bag Sale
The Barnwell County Helpline Thrift Store will host a $5 Brown Bag sale from March 19-31. The thrift store needs to move some of its inventory and has an overabundance of clothing and household items.
Stuff as much as you can in a brown grocery bag and you only pay $5 per brown bag.
Store hours are 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday thru Thursday and 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Fridays.
The thrift store is located at 29 Allen Street, Barnwell in the shopping center on Allen Street (building with the purple awning).

Water Media Display
The Barnwell County Museum is having the S.C. Water Media showing during the month of March. The Water Media exhibit will be through March 27. The museum is open Tuesday through Wednesdays from 3-5:30 p.m.

Salkehatchie Stew's "What Matters Most" play will take you back to the 1960s. Performances are at 3 p.m. March 22 and 23 at The Palmetto Theatre (108 Lee Ave., Hampton; and March 29 at The Dane Theatre (131 South Palmetto Ave., Denmark).
Tickets are $10 for adults and $7 for students. Group packages are available for groups of 12 or more. Tickets will be available at the door until sold out.
County Historical Tour packages are available for each Saturday performance. All tours are from 10 am to 2 p.m. and cost $10.

Angel Wings Food Bank, located behind Greater Faith Ministries at 150 Charles Street in Barnwell, will have a food giveaway on Saturday, March 22, from 9 to 11 a.m. Anyone in the community and surrounding area in need of food is welcome to come.
The 15th Annual Spring Herb Festival will be held Saturday, March 22, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Little Red Barn Gallery (12080 Hwy. 278, Barnwell, near junction of S.C. 37). The event is a special partnership with The Animal Advocates of Barnwell. Herb plants are by Williams Farm and Garden. There is free parking and no admission charge.
There will be two short informational programs at 11 a.m. (Herbal Teas with Lil Stoltzfus of Wisteria Cottage & Garden, and Pets & Plants with Annie Logan from Dr. Renee Givens-McHenry's Barnwell Veterinary Clinic), Sweet Grass Basket maker demonstration, Duck Pond fishing game for kids to benefit Animal Advocates, Herbal products, food, garden decorations, and much more!

Shepeard Community Blood Center's blood mobile will be in the Anytime Fitness parking lot Saturday, March 29, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. in honor of Robert Hutto from the Barnwell area. Hutto is battling liver cancer. Donors will be entered for a chance to win a $250 Visa gift card.
Barnwell Vet Clinic
Barnwell Vet Clinic will host rabies clinics at the following locations: Saturday, March 29 at Barnwell Vet Clinic on Hwy. 3 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.; Saturday, April 5 at the Williston Fire Dept. from 9 a.m. to noon; and April 5 at the Elko Fire Dept. from 1 to 4 p.m.
Dog and cat rabies vaccinations are $5. Other vaccinations will also be available. All profits will go to the Animal Advocates.
Dogs must be on a leash and cats must be in a box or carrier.

Dogwood Animal Hospital
Dogwood Animal Hospital will hold an Animal Health Clinic on March 29 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Tractor Supply store in Barnwell. They will offer rabies and annual vaccines, heart worm test, Microchipping and other products at a discounted rate. In conjunction, the Barnwell Animal Shelter is having a hotdog sale starting at 11 a.m. to raise funds for items such as an animal weight scale.
Taste of Blackville
The 8th annual Taste of Blackville will be held Saturday, April 12. Tickets are available for the BBQ grill raffle at Enterprise Bank in Blackville ($2 each or three for $5). Drawing will take place at the festival.
There will be vendors, BBQ, inflatable slides, Blackville-Hilda High School step team and band, pictures with the Easter Bunny, hat parade, and best dressed pet parade. Vendor forms are available at Enterprise Bank in Blackville.

Driver Safety Class
AARP Senior Driver Safety will hold classes on Thursday, April 17, and Thursday, July 17, at Generations Unlimited (10913 Ellenton St., Barnwell). Class will begin at 9 a.m. and run until 3:30 p.m. You may bring lunch or purchase it for a nominal fee from Generations Unlimited.
The cost for class materials is $15 for AARP members and $20 for non-members, cash or check (payable to AARP). Completion of this class may result in a discount on the participant's automobile insurance.

Get Out the Vote Rally
The Allendale County Democratic Party will host a "Get Out the Vote" Rally and BBQ featuring U.S. Congressman James "Jim" Clyburn on Saturday, April 19, at the Allendale Community Center (217 Flat Street, Allendale) from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. The Rally features free BBQ, Allendale-Fairfax High School Band and JROTC, voter registration, door prizes and more.
Blackville Music & Art Festival
The Blackville Music & Art Festival Committee presents its 3rd Annual Music & Art Festival on May 16-17 starting at 4 p.m. Friday and 11 a.m. on Saturday. They hope to make the event bigger and better and invite vendors, performers and others to take part.

The Animal Advocates is seeking donations to their "Pot of Gold", including items like dog toys, cat toys, Purina brand dog and cat food, treats, and cat litter. You can find a "Pot of Gold" at the Friends for Life Center or Pick of the Litter Shoppe.
The Barnwell Warhorse Club will hold their 28th annual dance and auction on Friday, March 21, from 7 to 11 p.m. at Sweetwater Country Club. The cost is $10 per person. There will be heavy hors D'oeuvres, silent and live auction, and music provided by Gary Brantley.
This will be followed Saturday, March 22, by their annual golf tournament (four-person captain's choice). Registration begins at 8 a.m. with the tournament beginning at 9 a.m.
The tournament costs $50 per person (includes green fees, cart and lunch). There will be a $10,000 hole-in-one shot and $5,000 50' putt.

El BAB Fish Fry
The El BAB Shrine Club will hold a fish fry fundraiser March 22 from 4 to 7 p.m. Tickets are $8. Eat in or take out.
Coloring Book/Crayon Donations
As part of the Southeastern Region of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc.'s Color St. Jude initiative, members of Eta Gamma Sigma Chapter and the Eta Omicron Chapter (Voorhees Chapter) are collecting coloring books and non-toxic crayons for patients receiving life-saving treatment at St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.

Shrine Club Golf Tournament
The El BAB Shrine Club will hold a fundraiser golf tournament April 5 at the Sweetwater Country Club. The Captain's Choice four man team tournament will begin with a shotgun start at 9 a.m.
Refreshments will be served on the course and a meal will be held at the Shrine Club after the tournament. Registration will begin at 8:30 a.m. Cost is $50 per player.

Easter Pet Photos
Hop! Hop! Hop! right over to the Friends for Life Center to have Pet & People Pictures made with the Easter Bunny on Saturday, April 5, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
The photographer will be Trudy Collins with Treasure's by Trudy. The sitting fee is $25 which includes a flash drive of all of the pictures that are taken.

Susie Rosier 5K Run/Walk
The 8th Annual Susie Rosier Character of Fitness 5K Run and Walk will be April 12 at 8 a.m. at the Barnwell Veterans Memorial Park. Dogs are welcome to walk.
The $20 registration fee includes a T-shirt. Proceeds benefit the Barnwell County Animal Shelter Foundation's No Cost/Low Cost Spay/Neuter program. The funds also contribute to the foundation's support and improvements of the animal shelter.
By participating as a sponsor ($100 or more), you can help continue efforts to control the county's pet population. Any contribution will be appreciated. Barnwell County Animal Shelter Foundation is a recognized non-profit corporation with 501c-3 status.

Chamber Golf Tournament
The Barnwell County Chamber of Commerce Benefit Golf Tournament will be held Friday, April 25, at Sweetwater Country Club in Barnwell. Registration begins at 9 a.m. with a Shotgun start at 10 a.m. The format is 4-person Captain's Choice and cost is $200 per team. Many prizes will be awarded, including Hole-in-One, Closest to the Pin, and Longest Drive.
Hole sponsorships also are available for $100. Join the Chamber for a day of fun and networking.

FFA Rodeo Pageant
The Miss BCCC FFA Rodeo Pageant will be held April 26 at 6 p.m. at Barnwell Primary School to benefit autism research.
A queen will be crowned in the following divisions: 1) 1st-4th grades, 2) 5th-8th grades, 3) 9th-12th grades with each division's queen winning a college scholarship, plus crowning of an FFA Sweetheart for most donations for autism collected.

The Barnwell County Diabetes Support Group meets every Tuesday night from 6-7:30 p.m. at the Gail Reyes Senior Center (11403 Ellenton St./U.S. 278, Barnwell). It is a free group. The first diabetes support group will be April 15.
The Barnwell County Diabetes Support Group will help diabetics to gain information concerning the following in self-management such as: Diabetes education, Diabetes nutrition (Eat Smarter), Exercise (Be Active), Diabetes medication, Diabetes and your emotional health (Stress Less), Blood sugars, and How to avoid diabetes burnout. In general, the Barnwell County Diabetes Support Group will help diabetics understand diabetes and why it is very important to keep diabetes under control.

All green-eyed pets up for adoption at the Friends for Life Foster and Adoption Center in Barnwell will be $10 off in March in recognition of St. Patrick's Day. All other adoptions of pets without green eyes will be entered into a pot of gold for a chance at a discount.
The Blackville-Hilda Class of 1988 Reunion Basketball Tournament will be held Saturday, March 22, at the Blackville-Hilda High gym in Blackville. It will be recreation and high school style format.
Divisions: 9-10 year old boys (Small Fry), 9-13 year old girls (Misses), 11-13 year old boys (Mites) Recreation League Divisions and High School Divisions (12 players maximum per team).
The entry fee is $30 per team (guaranteed two game minimum). Admission is $4 for adults/general public and $2 for students.
There will also be a free throw, 3 point and dunk contest. Prizes will be awarded.

The City of Barnwell Parks and Recreation is organizing a really exciting event that will include; music, Slam Dunk Contest, All Star Team Challenge and a surprise basketball game challenge between Barnwell and Allendale. It will be held Saturday, March 22, at Guinyard-Butler Middle School gym at 6 p.m. Admission Fee: Student $2 and Adults $6.
This event's goal is to raise funds to supplement the City of Barnwell's Youth Basketball Program. Monies raised will help offset program costs and fund the scholarship program for the 2015 season.
Come out and enjoy music, register for the Slam Dunk Contest and see some friendly competition.
