On Friday, the Barnwell High junior varsity softball team was looking to rebound from its offensive struggles in a 13-12 loss to Blackville-Hilda High the day before.
The Lady Warhorses did that and more as the team rolled to a 4-2 win over region rival Edisto High.
Makenzie Anderson and Tori Sanders each had two hits and scored a run as the Lady Warhorses caged the Lady Cougars for their first win of the season.
Barnwell High coach Vanessa Mitchell said her young team is coming around.
"This season I have a bunch of seventh and eighth graders and they're just learning the process of playing high school softball," Mitchell said.
"We didn't do so well against Blackville-Hilda, so getting a win today was big for our confidence."
For the Lady Warhorses the scoring began in the first inning.
Alyssa Still singled and scored off a RBI by Makenzie Anderson.
Tied at 1-1 in the third inning, the Lady Warhorses retook the lead. Sparked by a RBI double from Tori Sanders, the Lady Warhorses plated three runs for a 4-1 lead. Also scoring in the inning were Hannah Creech and Josi Ray.
The three run lead was more than enough for right hander Alyssa Still. Still was solid in the circle, pitching a complete game with three hits allowed and four strikeouts.
Defensively, the Lady Warhorses got an outstanding performance from Sydney Burbage, who was forced to leave the game with a head injury in the fourth inning.
Others performing well defensively included Elizabeth Reid, Kendyl Baxley, Ciara Gooding and Makayla Anderson.
