Victorious start for BHHS softball

It was a victorious start for the Blackville-Hilda High varsity softball team Thursday in the Hawks' Nest.
Fueled by a good all-around performance by Kenshae Staley, the Lady Hawks soared over the Barnwell High junior varsity team by a score of 12-4.
Staley got the job done with her bat as well with the glove. At the plate, Staley went three for three with a double and three runs scored.
Defensively, Staley was spectacular with several big plays, including a diving catch on a line-drive ball to end a scoring threat the fourth inning.
"Kensha Staley has really improved over the years, but this was probably the best game I've seen her played. She has really looked good so far this season," Blackville-Hilda High softball coach Michael Beasley said.
The Lady Hawks were hitting on all cylinders at the plate as they bagged out 13 hits.
For Blackville-High four batters had at least two hits, including Lanney Ray, who tied the team lead with three hits.
After managing just one run in the first inning, the Lady Hawks' bats came alive in the second inning. Sparked by a two-run RBI double from Kristin Seigler, the team scored four runs off three hits.
Players scoring in the inning included Ray, Patricia Birt, Staley and Dezerea Chavis.
Leading 5-1, the Lady Hawks added to their lead in the fourth inning.
Ray led the way by driving in Staley with a RBI double to center field. Ray later scored off a hit by Chavis.
Moments later, Chavis scored off an error to make the score 8-1.
Over the next two innings, the Lady Hawks tacked on four more runs.
For the Lady Hawks, Kayla Pate, Seigler and Chavis scored to complete the game.
Wise was the top pitcher for the Lady Hawks. Wise threw a four hitter with five strikeouts in seven innings of work.
