The Williston-Elko High boys varsity tennis team was almost flawless last Wednesday as they aced Barnwell High by a count of 7-0.
It was the second time in two weeks Williston-Elko High dispatched its in-county rivals.
On March 26 in the teams first meeting, the Blue Devils also defeated the Warhorses 7-0.
With the win, Williston-Elko High improves to 7-3 in the standings.
Williston-Elko High coach Bernard Walters said the team continues to play well.
"I thought it was another good effort today," Walters said.
"We fought hard and gave a good competitive effort on every one of our matches, including doubles."
For Barnwell High coach Susan Gardner, it was another day of growing pains as her team goes through a rebuilding year.
"This year we have a very young group with only three players returning. We have a lot of first-year players who are still learning the basics of the game."
Williston-Elko High's top player is sophomore Daniel Smith. Smith was first off the court for the Blue Devils in singles play as he picked up a 6-1, 6-1 win over Benjamin Gardner of the Warhorses.
"Right now, I believe I'm playing pretty well, but there's still always room for improvement," Smith said.
At the No. 2 slot, Jacob Vargo of the Blue Devils cruised with a 6-1, 6-0 straight set win over Chris Stanley of the Warhorses.
For WEHS, Kurt Odermatt took care of business in No. 3 singles. Odermatt recorded six aces in a 6-0, 6-2 with over Rihad Lowery of BHS.
In No. 4 singles, William Robinson of the Blue Devils downed Chad Owens of the Warhorses by scores of 6-2 and 6-0.
Austin Greene of Williston-Elko closed out singles play by defeating Daniel Sharpe, 6-0, 6-2.
The doubles play went in favor of Williston-Elko with Alex Kinard and Harrison Miller of No. 1 doubles winning.
