Friendship Baptist pastor retires after 30 years
Rev. John B. Nixon (Johnny) retired from Friendship Baptist Church in Barnwell after 30 years of service.
He and his family were honored with a dinner on April 6, 2014, to celebrate this milestone in their lives. Their oldest son, Jay and his family, from Fort Hood, Texas surprised them with a visit on Sunday.
He began as shepherd of our flock in March of 1984. John and his wife Marni came to Friendship as young parents and now all the children are gone and have children of their own. They have two sons, Jay and Josh; and one daughter, Tori. They have six grandchildren, Jack and Kaitlyn Nixon, Blaze, Judah, Kipling and Piper Ridgeway.
His life is an open book. He leads by example. He is a very compassionate man who truly loves the Lord, his family and his church family. Johnny is a very talented man, he sings, plays the piano and trumpet. He is truly a man of God and preaches the Bible.
We at Friendship appreciate their relentless dedication to our church family for the past 30 years. His replacement will have big shoes to fill. He has a heart of gold.
Thank you, Johnny and Marni for 30 great years.
