Jefferson Davis Academy closed out the season on a high note by hammering Andrew Jackson Academy 10-0 Thursday in Blackville.
Coming off an impressive win over Clarendon Hall Academy earlier in the week (April 22), JDA continued its momentum against the Confederates.
For the Raiders, a potent pitching performance by junior Will Gee and solid defense lifted the team to a season sweep of the Confederates.
The junior righthander delivered seven strong innings, striking out a season high 13 batters and allowing just two hits.
"This is a great win for us," JDA coach Curt Ott said. "Outstanding team effort because we got good pitching, hitting and defense."
The Raiders' defense and particularly the play of the outfielders were instrumental in keep the Confederates off the scoreboard.
With two outs in the fourth inning, outfielder Makenzie Webster made a catch at the warning track to rob the Confederates of a run.
Several others shining on the unit included Close Kearse, Jared Brown, Adam Gee and Cameron Polston.
The leaders for the Raiders offensively were Ross Kinard, Makenzie Webster, Cameron Polston and Will Gee.
Kinard led all hitters with three singles, an RBI and two runs scored. Polston singled, walked and scored two times. Webster, who scored the final run on passed ball, singled twice and scored two runs. Will Gee singled and scored.
