The Jefferson Davis Academy Lady Raiders wrapped up their season with a fourth place finish in the SCISA softball finals.
The tournament was held May 9-10 at the Piney Grove Complex in Lexington.
In the tournament, the Lady Raiders got off to a good start with a win over Laurens Academy.
The Lady Raiders, however, stumbled in the next two outings with losses to Clarendon Hall and Wardlaw Academy.
JDA season closes out the season with a record of 13-7.
JDA coach Greg Williams said it was a good season.
"I'm very proud of all the girls. This team made huge strides this season," Williams said. "Several of the younger players had to step up because we had only four seniors and none of them were pitchers."
In the opener against Lauren Academy, the Lady Raiders displayed a potent bat as the team pounded out 11 hits in a 6-3 win.
The Lady Raiders came out on fire at the plate in their first at-bat.
Highlighted by a two-run RBI single by Liz Ann Bonnette, the team plated three runs off four hits.
Also scoring in the inning included Caitlin Still and Anna Griffin. Makayla Thomas had a RBI in the inning.
Down by four runs, Laurens Academy rallied to tie the score at 3-3 in the fifth inning.
The deadlock lasted only a short while.
The Lady Raiders responded in the bottom of the fifth inning. Griffin and Bonnette got things started with singles to open the inning.
One batter later, Thomas brought Griffin home with a single.
Moments later, singles off the bats of Caroline Polston and Skyler Williams scored Bonnette and Thomas for 6-3 advantage.
Skyler Williams took care of the lead in the circle from there.
Over the sixth and seventh innings, Williams retired six of the next eight batters faced to close out the game.
