Farmers Markets
Barnwell: The Fuller Park Farmers Market is open to local artisans and crafters this year and we encourage those in the area to participate in the market. They are accepting vendor applications for the 2014 season. May- September market is on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m and Thursday nights from 5-8 p.m..

Elko: The Elko Farmers' Market is seeking vendors for its 2014 season, including farmers and gardeners with cool weather crops, early spring produce like salad greens, broccoli, cabbage, beets, garden peas, spinach and other greens. Berries and bedding plants are also good sellers in the spring and early summer. Crafters and bakers are also welcome.
It's every Saturday until mid-fall, at the corner of Hwy. 78 in Elko. WIC vouchers and senior checks are also accepted.

Sports Camp
The Blackville Recreation Department is sponsoring an eight-week summer sports camp June 2 thru July 31 from 3 to 9 p.m. It will offer a variety of activities, including cheerleading, football, soccer and board games. It costs $20 for youth ages four to 17.

River Trips
The Bamberg County Chamber of Commerce is sponsoring South Fork River Trips the third Saturday during the months of June thru September - June 21, July 19, August 16 and September 20. Meet at Bobcat Landing (on U.S. 301) north of Bamberg by 9 a.m.
Free shuttle service is provided, but donations are accepted.

Driver Safety Class
AARP Senior Driver Safety will hold a class on Thursday, July 17, at Generations Unlimited (10913 Ellenton St., Barnwell). Class will begin at 9 a.m. and run until 3:30 p.m. You may bring lunch or purchase it for a nominal fee from Generations Unlimited.
The cost for class materials is $15 for AARP members and $20 for non-members, cash or check (payable to AARP). Completion of this class may result in a discount on the participant's automobile insurance.

Evening with Jenks Farmer
On July 17 from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Jenks Farmer will read from his new book, Deep Rooted Wisdom. Event will take place at the Salkehatchie Arts Center in Allendale. The Arts Center will provide food and drink. This event is free and open to the public.
13th Annual Gospel Extravaganza
Saxophonist James "Bo" Gardner celebrates his 13th Annual Gospel Extravaganza on July 20 at 4 p.m. at the Williston Elko High School Auditorium. Musical guests include Joesphine Dicks and the Inspirers, John Wrights, Radio Angels. Doors open at 3 p.m. and donations are accepted.
2014 Summer Recreation Program
Programs are for ages 6-18 and will be at the Denmark Technical College Gymanisum. There is no cost for these programs. On July 7-10 and July 14-17 all times are from 9-1 p.m. Anyone interested can sign up at Denmark City Hall.
LSRA Kite Outing
LRSA will have a Kite Outing on August 2 starting with a meeting at Lower Savannah River Alliance Center at U.S. Hwy. 301 South of Allendale at 8 a.m. the cost is $20.
"God of Carnage" Auditions
Circle Theatre Academy Street in Barnwell will hold auditions for "God of Carnage" on July 22-23 at 7 p.m. Roles are available for two adult men and two adult women.
"Fiddler on the Roof Jr."
Participants of Circle Theatre's youth summer camp will perform "Fiddler on the Roof Jr." on July 11 at 7 p.m. July 12 at 3 and 6 p.m. and July 13 at 3 p.m. Tickets are $10 for adults and $8 for seniors and students. Group rates of $5 a ticket available for groups of more than five people attending the same perofmance.

Back 2 School Bash
City Wide Youth Empowerment will have a Back to School Bash on August 16 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Fuller Park. There will be free school supplies, free hair cuts, free food, games and music. They are also taking donations and volunteers. For more information call Shelby Williams at 803-671-4889.
Watermelon Field Day
The unofficial emblem of summer-the watermelon-gets a special day in the sun on July 10 when Clemson University's Edisto Research and Education Center hosts a field day for farmers of the crop. Registration begins at 8 a.m. and is open to the public. Indoor education sessions will be followed by tours of research fields.

"An Evening of Jazz and Entertainment"
Denmark Alumni Chapter of Voorhees College and Voorhees High School will sponsor an evening of jazz and entertainment featuring Jazz Artist Carl Frederick Wright of Spartanburg on July 26 starting at 7 p.m. at the Massachusetts Hall at Vorhees College.
Hotdog & Talk
On July 12 at 2 p.m. at the Barnwell County Library, Hotdog and Talk will hold a motivational speakin on "Beefing" (confrontations in our youth environments). The guest speakers will be Rev. Henry Lee Harley and Anthony B. Williams. There will be transportation for those without a ride. Pick up time will be at 1:30 p.m. at Barnwell Arms Apartments. Parents must sign consent form for their children to be transported to the library.
South Carolina D.I.G. Speaker
Dreams, Imagination and Gift Development Program will have a speaker on July 11 at 13021 Main Street in Williston at 5 p.m. Justin Williams will be the speaker and will talk about his success as a lawyer, his obstacles and how he overcame them.

Barnwell High School Registration
Barnwell High School will have 2014-2015 Registration each day from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Freshmen register on August 4. Sophomores register on August 5. Juniors register on August 6. Seniors Register on August 7. Registration Fee is $25 and Parking Decals are $25. All fees must be paid with cash or money order.
Barnwell Academy Registration
Barnwell Academy is now accepting applications for the 2014-2015 school year for Preschool-6th grade. Barnwell Academy is a faith-based, SCISA accredited Christian school now located on Ellenton Street.

Jefferson Davis Academy
Jefferson Davis Academy is now accepting applications for 2014-145 school year. Grade levels for enrollment are 3K - 12th grades. They also offer an afterschool care program from 2 to 4 p.m. for a very nominal fee.

Winfield Heights Kindergarten
Winfield Heights Christian Kindergarten is enrolling for the 2014-15 school year for grades K3, K4 and K5.

Barnwell Primary School
New student registration only is on Monday-Thursday from 8 a.m. to noon at the Barnwell Primary School. Registration is from June 9-July 31. Records that are required are birth certificate, SC shot record, child's social security card, two current dated proof of residence and the power bill is required as one proof of residence.
DAYCO Scholarship
An employee or a dependent of an employee of DAYCO Products, Inc. employed by a branch of the company located in South Carolina for at least four calendar years will be eligible to receive the DAYCO Scholarship, if they meet all initial and general eligibility criteria. Refer to the scholarship guidelines at Students must submit all required documentation (DAYCO Scholarship Application, an official high school transcript, FAFSA Release Form and letter(s) of recommendation from leadership of community organizations) in one packet to the SC Commission on Higher Education. The application and FAFSA Release form can be found at
Application deadline is July 14. All application materials must be in receipt of the Commission office by 5 p.m. of the deadline close.

Jefferson Davis Academy is sponsoring a cheer clinic from July 22-25. Cost is $50 includes T-shirt, snack, cheer and dance instruction and games.

Recreational Soccer
Registrations for Recreational Soccer are being accepted by the Barnwell Soccer Club from July 7, 2014 through August 15, 2014. The registration fee is $65.00. Youth aged 4-13 years of age are eligible to register (U-6 through U-14)-cannot be 14 before August 1st. Registration forms can be picked up at Anthony's Restaurant, Enterprise Bank in Barnwell, and Barnwell City Hall. Completed registration forms and registration fees can be dropped off at Anthony's Restaurant and Enterprise Bank in Barnwell or you can mail your registration form and payment to Barnwell Soccer Club, 55 Laurel Street, Barnwell, SC 29812.

Recreation Football and Cheerleading
