Farmers Markets
Barnwell: The Fuller Park Farmers Market is open to local artisans and crafters this year and we encourage those in the area to participate in the market. They are accepting vendor applications for the 2014 season. May- September market is on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m and Thursday nights from 5 to 8 p.m..

Elko: The Elko Farmers' Market is seeking vendors for its 2014 season, including farmers and gardeners with cool weather crops, early spring produce like salad greens, broccoli, cabbage, beets, garden peas, spinach and other greens. Berries and bedding plants are also good sellers in the spring and early summer. Crafters and bakers are also welcome.
It's every Saturday until mid-fall, at the corner of Hwy. 78 in Elko. WIC vouchers and senior checks are also accepted.

River Trips
The Bamberg County Chamber of Commerce is sponsoring South Fork River Trips the third Saturday during the months of June through September - currently August 16 and September 20. Meet at Bobcat Landing (on U.S. 301) north of Bamberg by 9 a.m.
Free shuttle service is provided, but donations are accepted.

Back 2 School Bash
City Wide Youth Empowerment will have a Back to School Bash on August 16 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Fuller Park. There will be free school supplies, free hair cuts, free food, games and music. They are also taking donations and volunteers.

Jailbreak Escape
The Lexington County Sheriff's Foundation will host a Jailbreak Escape on August 23. Registration begins at 6:15 a.m. with the race beginning at 8 a.m. Entry is $50 for a two person team and $30 for single before August 21.

EL BAB Shrine Club 2014 Bike Rally
EL BAB Shrine Club's 2014 Fall Bike Rally "Working for the Kids" will be on August 9. The motorcycle rally begins and ends at the club, 571 Patterson Mill Road in Barnwell. First bike out at 9 a.m. $15 per rider, $10 per passenger.
Tickets for drawing will be $25. The prizes include a Bad Boy 61 Outlaw Zero Turn 36 Horsepower Mower, a Browning A-5 12 Gauge Shotgun and a 45 quart Yeti Cooler.

Back to School Bash
The W-E CommUNITY Coalition will host a Back to School Bash on Sunday, August 10 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Williston-Elko High School Football field. The entire community is invited to this event full of fun, games, refreshments and school supplies.
This event will promote the intent to unify our community's efforts to ensure that the students of our community are equipped with the supplies needed to excel academically during the upcoming school year.

"No Boys Allowed" Luncheon
The Barnwell County Arts Council and the Barnwell County Museum will have a "No Boys Allowed" Luncheon on September 20 starting at 11:30 a.m. Tickets are $20 for adults and $7 for anyone under the age of 18. Tickets include a drawing for a dollhouse. All proceeds go to the Jean Orr Belcher Scholarship Fund. The dollhouse drawing will be on December 4.
Kline Back to School Giveaway
Town of Kline will sponsor its 2nd Annual Back to School Giveaway on August 9 from 10 a.m. to noon at the Kline Fire Department.
Family Fun Night
The Barnwell Parks and Recreation will have Family Fun Night on August 7 at Fuller Park from 6-8 p.m. They will have family friendly board games for your family and friends to enjoy. Come and enjoy some fun and friendly competition. Donations will be accepted
Together Sister's School Supply Giveaway
The Together Sister's School will have an annual school supply giveaway on August 16 from 3-6 p.m. at Maloney Field in Blackville. Monetary and supply donations are accepted.

Free Family Game Night
Barnwell State Park is having a free family game night at the Barnwell State Park Community Building on August 15 starting at 7 p.m. Donations will be accepted.
Stuff the Bus Campaign
The Barnwell County United Way's annual Stuff the Bus campaign will take place August 8-9 from 9-5 p.m. at Wal-Mart in Barnwell. During this time they will accept school supplies to benefit students in Barnwell County's three public school districts.
Education Forum
The Denmark Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. will sponsor an Education Forum with Tom Thompson, a Candidate for State Superintendent of Education on Saturday, August 23, 2014 at the Blackville Community Center from 1-3 p.m.
Meet and Greet the Teacher
Barnwell Primary School will hold a meet and greet the teacher drop-in on August 14 from 5-7 p.m. Parents and students should report to the cafeteria first to pay the student's $15 material fee and receive teacher placement.


Barnwell High School Registration
Barnwell High School will have 2014-2015 Registration each day from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Juniors register on August 6. Seniors Register on August 7. Registration Fee is $25 and Parking Decals are $25. All fees must be paid with cash or money order.
Barnwell Academy Registration
Barnwell Academy is now accepting applications for the 2014-2015 school year for Preschool-6th grade. Barnwell Academy is a faith-based, SCISA accredited Christian school now located on Ellenton Street.

Jefferson Davis Academy
Jefferson Davis Academy is now accepting applications for 2014-145 school year. Grade levels for enrollment are 3K - 12th grades. They also offer an afterschool care program from 2 to 4 p.m. for a very nominal fee.

USC Salkehatchie will have orientation on August 19 for East Campus at Walterboro August 18 will be West Campus orientation in Allendale from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Classes begin on August 21.

JDA Scholarship Applications
Jefferson Davis Academy is proud to announce that it is taking applications for the 2014/15 Mackenzie Webster Memorial Scholarship. This is a full tuition scholarship to attend the Academy that is open to any new JDA student entering the high school grade level.
The scholar must strive to be a good citizen who will contribute to the JDA family and demonstrate respect for his/her teachers, the administration, and his/her fellow students. It is hoped that the scholar will actively seek opportunities to participate in extracurricular activities in the arts, athletics, community service and/or student governance as Mackenzie Webster did.

Recreational Soccer
Registrations for Recreational Soccer are being accepted by the Barnwell Soccer Club through August 15.
The registration fee is $65. Youth aged 4-13 years of age are eligible to register (U-6 through U-14)-cannot be 14 before August 1. Registration forms can be picked up at Anthony's Restaurant, Enterprise Bank in Barnwell, and Barnwell City Hall. Completed registration forms and registration fees can be dropped off at Anthony's Restaurant and Enterprise Bank in Barnwell or you can mail your registration form and payment to Barnwell Soccer Club, 55 Laurel Street, Barnwell, S.C. 29812.
Anyone wishing to serve as a team sponsor, please contact Pam Rush at 671-2321. Team sponsorship is $150. Anyone wishing to coach a team, please contact Ken Kinard at 300-4180.
Recreation Football and Cheerleading
Allendale County Recreation Department is sponsoring recreation football and cheerleading. Registration is from July 1 to August 4. Registration deadline will be August 15. This is for ages 5-13. practices begin August 4 at 6 p.m. Registration fee is $40.

Zumba Classes
Zumba classes are held on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays from 10 to 11 a.m. $5 per class. Classes are held at the Effie Mae Community Center at the corner of Hagood and Marlboro, Barnwell.

Bamberg-Hampton Alumni
The Bamberg-Hampton Chapter of Denmark Technical College will meet on August 9 at 11 a.m. in the Physical Plant (Building 22) on the Denmark TECH campus. All members are urged to attend. Any questions or concerns may be directed to Willie Caldwell at 803-793-0600.
