The search for a permanent police chief for the Williston Police Department (WPD) is ongoing.
After the special-called meeting of Williston Town Council on August 1, former chief Roger Kaney was given new duties as the town's code enforcement and animal control operation.
Kaney will serve as interim until a permanent candidate is found.
Job listings have been advertised in The People-Sentinel and the response has been strong according to city administrator.
"No one has been interviewed yet," said Cook. "However, the response has been pretty strong." Cook says he will be reviewing applicants in more detail over the next week or so.
No WPD officers have applied for the job according to Cook.
According to Williston Mayor Jason Stapleton, around 20 people have applied, though Cook will narrow the list down to five or so in order to present to council.
