A new grief support group is forming in Barnwell County.
The group's first meeting will be Tuesday, September 9, at 10:30 a.m. in room 402 (behind the chapel) of Barnwell First Baptist Church. Mark Hudson, who leads a similar group in Aiken, will teach healthy ways to deal with loss.
A church member, who heard of Hudson's group, had the idea to start one here after many families in the church were going through a time loss. Rev. Keith Richardson said he knows loss isn't unique to his church, which is why the group is open to anyone in the community.
Richardson said Christians are called to minister to those in need, citing James 1:27 which talks about caring for orphans and widows. "Jesus was always reaching out to people who are hurting," he said.
Attendees of Tuesday's meeting can give input into how often and when the group should meet.
