Barnwell Academy teachers and students donated 50 stuffed animals to the Barnwell County Sheriff's Office on Thursday, August 28.
While giving stuffed animals to police officers might sound strange, the stuffed animals play a more important role than the Barnwell Academy students recognized, according to Sheriff Ed Carroll.
"These will help kids that are in bad situations," Carroll told the children. "So many kids today are taught to think that the police are the bad guys."
Carroll gave examples of fighting families or situations kids are in where they do not have anything.
"These will make them feel safe or comforted when my deputies give these to them," said Carroll.
Following the donation, Carroll gave a tour of the sheriff's department.
