Honors & Achievements
Rachel Williams of Barnwell has been elected the 2013-14 SGA Student Body President at Newberry College. Rachel currently serves as a Resident Advisor and Student Ambassador for the Admissions Office. On campus she is the Philanthropy Chair for Student Alliance for Equality (SAFE) and Treasurer for Alpha Psi Omega National Honor Society (APO).
On March 18, 2013, Charles Harris Melton, son of Debbie H. Melton and the late Calvin Melton, was inducted into the Rho Chi Pharmacy Honor Society.
Membership in Rho Chi is the highest honor the profession of pharmacy can bestow on select individuals based on their academic excellence.
Charles becoming a member of Rho Chi is an important accomplishment that comes with both privileges and responsibilities. His purpose as a member of the society is to adhere to and promote the highest ideals in pharmacy both scientific and cultural.
John R. Reynolds, Pharm. D., who is the National President of the Rho Chi Society, presented Charles and 19 other inductees a certificate of membership along with his sincere congratulations.
As a member of this society, it is the hope of Dr. Reynolds that each inductee will gain camaraderie with fellow students and foster a lifelong process of intellectual curiosity that enhances the profession of pharmacy and improve the care of the patients they serve.
One junior from Jefferson Davis Academy will attend Palmetto Boys State at Anderson University June 9-15.
Cameron Polston is being sponsored by the Patt B. Coggin American Legion Post #91 in Blackville. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Tracey Polston of Barnwell and was selected on the basis of leadership, character and scholarship.
He will spend an intense week learning patriotic leadership that is needed for America's future. The students will hear from state and national political figures and have the chance to seek and campaign for officers, including Governor of Boys State.
