Barnwell 4-H’ers prepare for state fair

4-H’ers have prepared for both the Orangeburg County Fair Oct. 3-9 and the State Fair Oct. 12-23 by raising and preparing animals for the show ring and by completing projects to exhibit.

Youth have been raising cows, goats and hogs to show at the Orangeburg County Fair. Events next week include: Youth Dairy Show on October 5; Youth Beef Show on October 6, Junior Barrow Show on October 7 and SC Meat Goat Show on Saturday, October 8. The South Carolina State Fair is October 12-23. Items made during 4-H Summer Fun Programs will be on display in the Fancy Work Division of the State Fair. Exhibits include pottery totem poles and face jugs. All items will be on display in the Moore Building. Bamberg County 4-H youth will be showing their hogs at the Performance Tested Barrow Show on October 18.

4-H Day at the Fair is October 15. 4-H members and volunteers will get in free with their 4-H membership cards. County Roll call will be in front of the Ellison Building at noon. “Drone Discovery” is the theme for the 4-H Booth in the Ellison Building. All the Ag Exhibits and Extension Booths will be in the Ellison Building this year. State Healthy Lifestyles Challenge will be taking place in the Moore Building on 4-H Day.
