‘Mr. Jim’ generous in helping Ga. evacuees

Dear Editor,

My family and I stopped in your town unexpectedly yesterday afternoon (Sept. 12) for a few hours. We were traveling back to Savannah, Ga. on S.C. 3 after being evacuated from Richmond Hill, Ga. due to Hurricane Irma.

We weren’t traveling light, so to speak, with three children, my mother-in-law and a dog when our truck broke down with our pull-along camper. I called the first auto repair shop Google could find and Mr. Jim with Jim’s Tire & Auto saved the day. This man couldn’t have been more generous with his willingness to help us, his efficiency in getting the job done, and making us feel welcome.

My fiancé and I just thought this man needed to be recognized in some way and assuming he is ‘The Jim” it wouldn’t do much good to call his boss. I am not sure if your paper does a ‘hometown hero’ piece or something similar but Mr. Jim deserves recognition for being a great face for the town of Barnwell. Given our situation, he put our needs first and literally had us in and out in half the time he said it would take. He was even coming to get us before we finally inched our way into his shop.

Just wanted to share some “good” news.

Thanks, Barnwell!

Alexa Hankinson,

Richmond Hill, Ga.
