Stable Talk: News from the campus of Barnwell High

Barnwell High School may have had a shortened school week due to Hurricane Irma, but there was definitely no shortage of excitement on Friday, September 15.

Mrs. Lisa Wyndham and the student council are to be commended for coordinating the week’s homecoming events, especially the homecoming parade and the half-time activities. A special thank you is extended to the head coaches of all of Barnwell’s past state championship teams for serving as the parade’s grand marshals. The football team carried on the winning tradition with a 34-14 win over the Swansea Tigers. After an open week, the undefeated Warhorses will begin their Region 5 play on Friday, Sept. 29, when they travel to Calhoun County.

Homecoming week class winners were as follows: Senior Queen Zariah Brown, Junior Queen Kinsley Breland, Junior King Reginald Roberts, Sophomore Queen Madison Owens, Sophomore King Dennis Perry, and Freshman Queen Cameron Porter.

Adding to the excitement provided by the football team’s fifth win of the season was the half-time announcement of the 2017 Homecoming Court Winners: 2nd runner-up Kennedy Cave, 1st runner-up Nigeria Riddle, and Queen Kyra Shuler.

Twenty-eight BHS students attended CSRA College Night on Sept. 14 in Augusta, Ga. Thanks goes to Mr. David Augustine, Mrs. JJ Cone, Mrs. Kaylyn Baxley, and Mr. Travis Morehead for chaperoning the trip.
