JDA Raiders hammer Crusaders, 48-6
The Jefferson Davis Academy varsity football team is gaining momentum at the right time of the season.
A week after resurrecting its season with a homecoming win over W.W. King Academy, Jefferson Davis Academy resurrected a little swagger on the road Friday by routing Laurens Academy by a score of 48-6.
With the win, JDA moves to 5-3 overall and 2-0 in region play.
“This was another good team win tonight. We did a superb job of jumping on them early. After getting off to a big lead, we were then able to control the tempo of the game,” JDA coach Michael Tindall said.
Offensively, the Raiders had one of their most explosive games of the season as they ran roughshod through the Crusaders for a season high 434 yards.
It was all Raiders from the opening kickoff. The Raiders dominated the opening quarters as they scored a season-high 34 points.
Senior tailback Jimmy Bozard led the onslaught. Bozard wreaked havoc against the Crusaders’ defense, rushing for a season-high 336 yards and four touchdowns. Bozard, who had an electrifying 80-yard touchdown run, finished with 421 all-purpose yards.
“It was a tremendous rushing effort by Jimmy Bozard. He’s a special talent that’s capable of taking it all the way on any given play,” Tindall said.
Also having a good night offensively were Trent Jamison and Wyatt Brant. Jamison rushed for 54 yards and a touchdown. Brant had 21 yards and a touchdown.
The defensive standouts for the game included team-leading tackler Dalton Beasley wth seven tackles and Tyler Renew and Jeremy Davis with five stops apiece.
