Dirk W. Byrd (Williston)
Funeral services for Dirk William Byrd, 63, of Williston, will be held 11 o’clock a.m., Tuesday, December 5, 2017 in the Folk Funeral Home Chapel, Williston, with Dr. Chris Mullennix officiating; burial will be in the Williston Cemetery with Military Honors accorded. The family will receive friends immediately following the service in the Folk Funeral Home Chapel on Tuesday. Memorial contributions may be given to the Williston Cemetery, P.O. Dirk passed away on Saturday, December 2, 2017.
Born in Albany, Ga., Dirk was a son of the late Ret. Lt./Col. William Harry Byrd and Peggy Joyce Harvey Byrd. Dirk served in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Providence SSN 719 as a Nuclear Reactor Controls Supervisor. He was a member of Mt. Calvary Baptist Church and was previously employed as a scheduler/planner at Westinghouse and the MOX Facility at the Savannah River Site. He formerly volunteered as assistant scout leader for Boy Scout Troop #65. He enjoyed astrology, math and was a magician; he loved entertaining and talking to others about magic. He was a member of the International Brotherhood of Magicians (IBM). Dirk was an avid reader who had a thirst for knowledge and had an uncanny ability to retain information.
Survivors include his loving wife of thirty-two years, Dana Kathryn Bolen Byrd of the home; son, Dane William Byrd of Williston; daughter and son-in-law, Kathryn Alyse and Alex Paavel of Charleston; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Myron and Katie Bolen; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Denise and Jimmy Elkins, all of Williston; several aunts, uncles and cousins. In addition to his parents, Dirk was preceded in death by his brother, Alan K. Byrd.
