Dorothy Kathleen Blind (Fairfax)
Dorothy Kathleen Blind, 95, of Fairfax, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, January 2, 2018 after a short illness.
Mrs. Blind was born in 1922 in Dennison, Ohio. She was the daughter of the late Birney M. and Nellie Patterson Long. She was employed by the Agriculture office in Columbus, Ohio until she married Frank H. Blind in 1945 after he returned from the war. Kathleen and Frank moved to Allendale in 1952 where they chose to raise their family for 58 years. Kathleen devoted her life to her family. She was an active member of Swallow Savannah United Methodist Church until she moved to Columbia. Mrs. Blind was also a lifetime member of the Order of the Eastern Star.
Kathleen was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Frank, and her sister Marjorie Gary. She is survived by her children, Birney F. (Laura) Blind of Clinton, John A. (Janie) Blind of Colorado Springs, CO, Ruth Ann (Mike) Tuten of Crossville, TN, Stanley T. (Joy) Blind of Lexington; seven grandchildren: Bryan A. (Maren) Blind of Castle Rock, CO, Katy (Nick) Brant of Denver, CO, Tyler Blind of Mt. Pleasant, Lauren (Todd) Bontrager of Gastonia, NC, Melanie (Clay) Carter of Lexington, Jennifer (Barrett) Hansen of Staten Island, NY, Kenneth (Jenna) Blind of Chapin. She was "Grandma Cookie" to her ten great-grandchildren: Evelyn, Grant, Ella, Jack, Elijah, Rhett, Abigail, Christian, Caroline, Emma.
Family and friends will celebrate Kathleen's home going on Friday, January 5, 2018. Visitation will be held from 1 to 2:30 p.m. with the service at 2:30 at Swallow Savannah UMC, 417 Walnut St. West, Allendale, SC.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to Swallow Savannah United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 532, Allendale, SC 29810.
