The Williston-Elko High varsity girls basketball team got payback Thursday night against Ridge-Spring-Monetta High in Blackville.
In the teams first meeting, Dec. 13, Ridge-Spring Monetta topped Williston-Elko High 47-42.
In that game three starters from Williston-Elko High fouled out, including leading scorer Tierra Richberg.
In the rematch, however, Williston-Elko High wasn't left short-handed. Fueled by the plays of seniors Richberg and Jalen Reed, the Lady Blue Devils defeated the Lady Trojans 46-36 in the Hawks Invitational Consolation game.
The senior duo accounted for 27 points, 19 rebounds and four blocked shots. Richberg was terrific in the paint, going seven-of-10 for a game high 16 points. Richberg also registered three blocked shots and 13 rebounds.
Reed wasn't far behind in offensive production as she finished with 11 points on five-of 11 shooting, eight steals and six rebounds.
With the win, Williston-Elko High improves to 5-2 in the season.
Williston-Elko High coach Eva Strong said the girls finished strong after a slow start.
"We were careless with the ball at the start of the game. After an early timeout and a couple of adjustments, the team settled and played much better," Strong said.
"We had a lot to play for tonight because Ridge-Spring Monetta beat us earlier. There are in our region, so we didn't want to lose to them again."
A couple of other players enjoying solid outings against Ridge-Spring Monetta were Ebony Corbitt and Ciera Smith.
Corbitt tallied 13 points with six points coming in the final quarter. Smith, who had six points also added seven rebounds and six steals. Shakenya Corbett contributed three points, five steals and five rebounds.
In third round tournament action, the Lady Blue Devils disposed of Wagener-Salley High 47-12.
The game was never in doubt as the Lady Blue Devils sizzled to a 25-2 halftime lead and never looked back.
For WEHS four players scored in double digits. Richberg led the onslaught with 14 points and 11 rebounds. Shakenya Corbett turned in her best performance of the season with 12 points, 10 rebounds and six assists.
Ciera Smith shelled out 12 points on six-of eight shooting from the field. Reed added 10 points. 10 assists and two rebounds.
"Right now, we're still a work in progress," Strong said. "Offensively, we have to do a better job of protecting. Defensively, we have to get better on the boards."
