The Williston District 29 School Board is moving along in their search for a permanent superintendent.
Following a brief closed session for a personnel matter, the board approved a schedule for the superintendent search during their regular Jan. 17 meeting.
Board member Scotty Richardson asked what they would be discussing during closed session. Chairman Alan Mulligan said it was dealing with “questions specifically toward personnel” though he did not elaborate.
The S.C. School Boards Association (SCSBA) developed the schedule. “It’s a pretty standard search,” said Dr. Paul Krohne, the SCSBA executive director, in an interview. “We want to move along as quickly as possible without rushing.”
The SCSBA has already received seven applications.
According to the schedule, the deadline for applications is Feb. 24 with the school board selecting the semi-finalists Feb. 27. Semi-finalist interviews will be March 12-14 with the announcement of the finalists March 16.
The schedule is tentative as dates “could change as things go along,” said Dr. Krohne.
The board will conduct final interviews March 26-28 with an announcement on the new superintendent scheduled for March 29, according to the schedule.
Interim Superintendent Dr. Everette Dean Jr. will serve as the district’s leader until the permanent superintendent has been chosen.
Board member Chris Rivers motioned to approve the schedule which was seconded by Doris Young. Rivers, Young and Mulligan voted in favor of the schedule, while Richardson and Calvin Melton voted against it.
