Iris Brunjes Simmons, 86, of Williston, passed away Thursday, Nov. 15, 2012. Graveside funeral service was held at 1 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 17, at the Williston Cemetery with the Rev. Cindy Fuller officiating. The family received friends after the service at the Williston United Methodist Church.
Born in Wilmington, N.C., Mrs. Simmons was the daughter of the late Martin and Virginia Williamson Brunjes. She retired in 1984 as co-owner and accountant of the Piggly Wiggly in Williston. She was a member of the Williston United Methodist Church and sang in the church choir since the 1950s and was very active having served on various committees.
Survivors include her husband, Leo Benjamin Simmons Sr. of the home; daughter, Dr. Rebecca S. (Robert) Weatherby, PhD. of Williston; grandchildren, Leo (Marsha) Simmons III, Elizabeth Simmons, Harry (Shelly) Behrens Jr., Katie Behrens, Karl Behrens, Dr. Brian (Kim) Weatherby, Md., and Chris Weatherby; six great-grandchildren; a sister, Mildred Littlejohn of Fayetteville, N.C.; daughter-in-law, Dr. Sue Simmons, PhD. of Iowa City, IA.
She was predeceased by a daughter and son-in-law, Virginia S. Behrens, Harry Behrens; a son, Dr. Leo Benjamin Simmons Jr., MD; brothers, Martin, William, John, Alfred, Thomas and Bobby Behrens.
Folk Funeral Home Inc. and Crematory was in charge of arrangements.
