Lady Hawks best Lady Eagles, 40-31

The Lady Hawks of Blackville-Hilda got the best of the North High Lady Eagles by a score of 40-31 Jan. 8 in North.
The Lady Hawks, who showed a little rust with only four first-quarter points, erupted for 19 points in the second quarter to take a commanding 23-13 halftime lead.
Junior shooting guard Tyesha Clark fueled the second quarter run with eight points on four of six shooting from the field.
Clark finished with a game high 17 points and seven rebounds.
Latoya Roundtree also made her presence felt with four points and six rebounds in the second quarter. Roundtree concluded the game with seven points and 11 rebounds.
With the victory, Blackville-Hilda High improves to 6-3 overall and 3-1 in region play.
Blackville-Hilda High coach William Hammond said the team came on strong after a sluggish start.
"We seemed a little timid in the opening quarter, but in the second quarter we settled down," Hammond said. "We did a good job of buckling down defensively and taking advantage of our scoring opportunities in the paint."
Rounding out the scoring for the Lady Hawks were Taylor Brown with three points, six steals and five assists. Kensha Staley led the team with eight steals and Shamon Newton added four points and two assists.
On Thursday night, the Lady Hawks continued their winning ways by grounding the Lady War Eagles of Wagner-Salley High 46-37.
Blackville-Hilda High, which held a 24-15 halftime lead, broke the game open with a 10-3 run to open the third quarter.
For the Lady Hawks, Tolanda Dicks had her best game of the season with 10 points, six rebounds and four steals.
Tyesha Clark, who had 11 points, scored in double digits for the tenth time this season. Taylor Brown pitched in eight points and six steals. Shaquina Calhoun and Roundtree each scored three points.
