Warhorses fall to Cougars in region

The Barnwell High Warhorses fell to the Edisto High Cougars by a count of 51-34 Jan. 8 in region play.
For the Warhorses it was a closely contested game through the first three quarters with Barnwell High trailing 33-24.
However, in the fourth quarter, the Cougars pulled away from the Warhorses with a 12-4 run to make the score 45-28 with less than four minutes to play.
With the loss, Barnwell High falls to 0-2 in region play.
"Our kids played really hard and kept the game close for the most part," Barnwell High School coach Michael Highsmith said. "The effort was thee, but we made some costly mistakes in the fourth quarter. Those miscues allowed Edisto to secure the game."
The top offensive player for Barnwell High was freshman Shakur Chisolm. Chisolm led the team with 14 points on seven of 13 shooting from the field.
Others provided offense for the Warhorses. Trent Elmore had eight points, seven rebounds and three steals. Chris Riddle got off to a hot start with seven points on three of four shooting in the first quarter. Devontay Davis contributed two points and three steals.
"Right now, things are a little tough with back to back region losses. We need to respond with a win to get us going again.
