Through three quarters Friday night, the Williston-Elko High Lady Blue Devils found themselves in a very difficult position.
Shooting just 18 percent from the field (six of 33), Williston-Elko High was down 20-17 to North High School and was in jeopardy of losing its sixth straight game.
Fortunately for the Lady Blue Devils, they had seven minutes to regroup. And they did, rallying for a 34-31 victory.
Down 23-18 with 6:02 left to play, the Lady Blue Devils went on a 14-8 run. Ebony Corbitt fueled the rally for the Lady Blue Devils with 13 fourth quarter points on six of seven shooting from the field. Corbitt finished with a game high 17 points, nine assists and six rebounds.
With the win, Williston-Elko High snaps a five game losing streak. The Lady Blue Devils improve to 4-6 overall and 2-2 in region play.
WEHS coach Eva Strong said despite its shooting drought, the team kept plugging along.
"For the first three quarters, we struggled offensively," Strong said. "It was a little disappointing at times for us because we couldn't get anything to go in the basket. The girls, however, kept their poise. In the final quarter, we finally got into a good offensive flow."
A player who has come on strong for the Lady Blue Devils this season is Ashley Williamson. Williamson continued her rise with eight points, nine steals and six rebounds.
Rounding out the scoring were Shari Williams, Octivia Mack and Zori Green with two points each. Erial Thomas provided quality minutes off the bench with six steals, five rebounds and four assists.
In other region play, the Lady Blue Devils were nipped by the Lady Predators of Fox Creek High by a score of 39-38 Jan. 15 in Williston.
Leading 26-19 with eight minutes to play, the Lady Blue Devils seemingly had control of the game.
Their chance for victory, however, slipped away as the Lady Predators outscored them 20-10 to end the game.
For the Lady Blue Devils, Ebony Corbitt led the scoring with 22 points. Ciera Smith had six points and seven rebounds.
