The Allendale County Democratic Party will host the second annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Unity Breakfast on Saturday, Jan. 26, at the Allendale-Fairfax High School (Hwy. 278 E., Allendale). The guest speaker is Sen. Clementa Pinckney representing S.C. Senate District 45.
The cost is a donation of $15 per person or $100 for a table of eight.

Early Childhood Conference
Barnwell County First Steps and Aiken Barnwell Head Start will host the "Bridging, Understanding and Learning Conference 2013" on Saturday, Jan. 26, from 8 a.m. to 3:15 p.m. at Barnwell Primary School.
The free conference is for parents, early care and education professionals, local partnering agencies and the broader community to overcome educational barriers and strengthen Barnwell County's system for quality early childhood development.

A team captains' workshop for the Relay for Life of Barnwell County will be held Monday, Jan. 28, at 6:30 p.m. at the Barnwell Public Library Community Room. UniHealth Post Acute Care of Barnwell (31 Wren St., Barnwell) will host a community food drive beginning Jan. 30 at 2 p.m. through Jan. 31 at 11:30 a.m.
Nonperishable and household items are needed and will benefit the Axis 1 Center of Barnwell. Items include: canned meats, rice, beans, boxed food, tea, drinks, toilet paper, napkins, soap and dish liquid.

Daddy/Daughter Sweetheart Ball
The third annual Daddy/Daughter Sweetheart Ball will be Feb. 8 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Guinyard-Butler Middle School. Activities will include a dinner buffet, dancing, a take home craft and songs.
Registration is limited and is on a first come, first serve basis at Barnwell City Hall. The cost is $20 per couple and $5 for each additional child.

The Williston-Elko High School Drama Department will present Rodgers & Hammerstein's "Oklahoma!" Feb 8-9, in the W-E District Auditorium at 7 p.m.
OKLAHOMA! is presented through special arrangement with R & H Theatricals (www.rnh.com).The musical is based on the play "Green Grow the Lilacs" by Lynn Riggs. The original stage production was famous for its lyrics and music written and composed by Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein II, and for its dances staged by Agnes de Mille.
Admission is $6, though children three and under are free if they sit in a parent's lap. No seat reservations will be made and patrons are encouraged to arrive early to get choice seating. The house will open at 6:15 p.m.

A marriage conference, hosted by Winfield Heights Baptist Church (315 Chester St., Williston), will be held Saturday, Feb. 9 from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Dr. Danny Akin will be the guest speaker.

Hotdog & Talk
The Hotdog & Talk youth mentorship program will be Feb. 16 at 1 p.m. at the Barnwell County Public Library to discuss gun violence and how to control anger as a youth. Food will be provided.
The Wonderland Circus is coming to Barnwell on Friday, Jan. 25 at 6:30 p.m. in the Guinyard-Butler Middle School gym. It's the annual fundraiser for the Barnwell Primary School Parent Teacher Organization.
There will be a variety of acts, including trampoline, chair balancing and hand balancing, clowns, foot juggling, trapeze, illusions, poodles and music. Concessions and souvenirs will be for sale.
Advanced tickets can be purchased at the BPS office #2, and cost $3 for students and $4 for adults. Tickets at the door cost $4 for students and $5 for adults.
The Third Annual Valentine Gala benefiting the Salkehatchie Arts Center will be held Saturday, Feb. 2, from 7-11 p.m. at the USC Salkehatchie Conference Center in Allendale. There will be live and silent auctions, an open full bar, live music and dancing, and A Taste of Salkehatchie, a buffet of dishes from over 50 regional restaurants and chefs.
Tickets are $30/person or $50/couple. Tables of eight can be reserved in advance for $200. Tickets can be purchased at the door or in advance at the Salkehatchie Arts Center, The Frock Shoppe, Brooker's, and Evelyn's.
All proceeds benefit the Salkehatchie Arts Center, a non-profit retail shop featuring the works of regional artists, authors, and craftspeople.
