When the Barnwell High girls varsity basketball team looks back on Friday's home game against Edisto High, missed opportunities will likely come to mind.
Trailing 20-14 entering the fourth quarter, the Lady Warhorses had several empty trips in the final eight minutes, missing on 13 of 14 shots including eight layups in a 28-17 loss.
With the loss, Barnwell High falls to 1-6 in region play.
Barnwell High coach Adrian Bell said the team played hard, but stumbled offensively down the stretch.
"It's hard to win games when you don't put the ball in the basket," Bell said.
"We had good looks inside, but we weren't able to finish."
The Lady Warhorses got off to a good start. Alexis Avila of Barnwell High provided the offense early on with four points for a 6-4 lead.
In the second quarter, the Lady Warhorses continued to keep the game close. On the fast break, Avila and Sherita Wright scored on lay ups to tie the game at 10-10.
After four first half lead changes, the Lady Cougars started to pull away from the Lady Warhorses in the third quarter.
Kiwaya Stroman and Gianne Moore fueled a 8-4 run with four points each for a 18-14 lead. Dominique Daniels tried to keep the Lady Warhorses close with four points in the quarter.
In the fourth quarter, Stroman provided six more points as the Lady Cougars closed the game with a 11-3 run.
The Lady Warhorses' only basket in the quarter came on a three-pointer by Jeneka Williams.
