The Jefferson Davis Academy varsity girls stormed past Clarendon Hall Academy by a score of 55-32 Friday night in Blackville.
The Lady Saints of Clarendon Hall Academy hung close with the Lady Raiders through the first quarter with the game tied at 8-8.
However, in the second quarter, the Lady Raiders went on a 20-8 run and never looked back.
JDA coach John Judy said the team played well in all phases of the game.
"It definitely helps offensively when you make your shots and rebound well. Defensively, we were very aggressive out there tonight. We got after them and forced turnovers."
The game started with the Lady Raiders spotting the Lady Saints an early 6-2 lead. The Lady Raiders quickly turned the tables, closing the first quarter with a 6-2 run on baskets by Presley Rutland, Anna Griffin and Haley Eidson.
Moments into the second quarter, the Jamie Madura of JDA got the home fans on their feet with a three-pointer to extend the lead at 15-10. The scoring continued for the Lady Raiders with Rutland, Griffin, Eidson and Madison Bates scoring baskets in transition to make the score 24-14 with 3:27 left in the first half.
In the third quarter, the Lady Saints offense went cold with 13 misses in 15 attempts.
The Lady Raiders took full advantage of their shooting drought by building a 43-22 lead to end the quarter.
Katelyn Bell carried the offense in the quarter with eight points on four of five shooting from the field.
In the final quarter, the Lady Raiders kept the pressure on with a 12-10 scoring edge to complete the game.
For the game, JDA had four players to score in double figures. Bell led with 14 points and 13 rebounds. Eidson had 12 points and seven boards.
Rutland had a good, all-around game with 10 points, seven assists, six steals and two rebounds. Griffin contributed 10 points and six rebounds. Bates had superb game defensively with a team-leading nine steals. Bates also pitched in nine points and four assists.
