Food Drive
UniHealth Post Acute Care of Barnwell (31 Wren St., Barnwell) will host a community food drive beginning Jan. 30 at 2 p.m. through Jan. 31 at 11:30 a.m.
Nonperishable and household items are needed and will benefit the Axis 1 Center of Barnwell.

Free Breakfast
J's Café will serve breakfast every first Sunday (Feb. 3) in the fellowship hall at Greater Faith Ministries (179 Calhoun St., Barnwell) from 8 to 9:45 a.m.

Daddy/Daughter Sweetheart Ball
The third annual Daddy/Daughter Sweetheart Ball will be Feb. 8 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Guinyard-Butler Middle School. Activities will include a dinner buffet, dancing, a take home craft and songs.
Registration is limited and is on a first come, first serve basis at City Hall. The cost is $20 per couple and $5 for each additional child.

‘Oklahoma!' Play
The Williston-Elko High School Drama Department will present Rodgers & Hammerstein's "Oklahoma!" Feb 8-9, in the W-E District Auditorium at 7 p.m.
OKLAHOMA! is presented through special arrangement with R & H Theatricals (www.rnh.com).The musical is based on the play "Green Grow the Lilacs" by Lynn Riggs. The original stage production was famous for its lyrics and music written and composed by Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein II, and for its dances staged by Agnes de Mille.
Admission is $6, though children three and under are free if they sit in a parent's lap. No seat reservations will be made and patrons are encouraged to arrive early to get choice seating. The house will open at 6:15 p.m.

Hotdog & Talk
The Hotdog & Talk youth mentorship program will be Feb. 16 at 1 p.m. at the Barnwell County Public Library to discuss gun violence and how to control anger as a youth. Food will be provided.

Food Giveaway
Angel Wings Food Bank will have a food giveaway on Saturday, Feb. 23, from 9 a.m. to noon for anyone in need of food.

 

Valentine Gala
The Third Annual Valentine Gala benefiting the Salkehatchie Arts Center will be held Saturday, Feb. 2, from 7-11 p.m. at the USC Salkehatchie Conference Center in Allendale. 
Tickets are $30/person or $50/couple. Tables of eight can be reserved in advance for $200. Tickets can be purchased at the door or in advance at the Salkehatchie Arts Center, The Frock Shoppe, Brooker's, and Evelyn's.  
All proceeds benefit the Salkehatchie Arts Center, a non-profit retail shop featuring the works of regional artists, authors, and craftspeople.

Chili Supper
Barnwell Academy is hosting a chili supper fundraiser Sunday, Feb. 3, from 1-4 p.m. in the Barnwell Presbyterian Church Fellowship Hall. Plates are $7 and include chili, cornbread and dessert. Chili can be purchased by the pint for $5.

Waffle Supper
The Blackville Civic Club will host their annual waffle supper fundraiser Monday, Feb. 4, from 6-8 p.m. in the Blackville-Hilda High School cafeteria.
Tickets are $6 for adults and $3 for children. They can be bought at the door or in advance from Willie's Hardware or Blackville Town Hall.

Arts Council Membership Drive
The Marvelous Wonderettes will perform during the Feb. 5 membership drive fundraiser for the Barnwell County Arts Council starting at 7 p.m. in the Barnwell Primary School auditorium.
Tickets are on sale for $10 at Evelyn's Jewelry in Barnwell, Willie's Hardware in Blackville, Rivers Pharmacy in Williston, Brooker's Hardware in Denmark and the Salkehatchie Arts Council in Allendale. They will also be available at the door.

Oyster Roast
The El BAB Shrine Club (571 Patterson Mill Rd., Barnwell) will host an oyster roast Saturday, Feb. 16, at 4 p.m. It costs $15/person for all you can eat oysters. Other foods will also be provided as well as music.

Fish Fry
The Knights of Columbus Council 9161 will hold their annual fish fry fundraiser Friday, Feb. 22 from 4:30 to 7 p.m. at St. Andrew Church Hall. Plates are $7 for adults and $4 for children and include fish, cole slaw, fries and hush puppies.

Raffle Fundraiser
A raffle fundraiser to benefit Philip Fail is going on through Saturday, Feb. 23. The prize is a 12'x8' utility barn with siding and shingles made by Don's Utility Barns.
Ticket locations include: Fairfax Pharmacy (c/o Carol Beth Davis), Gordon's Barber Shop in Barnwell (c/o William DeFreest), and Country Cutters in Hampton (c/o Lindsay Jones).

BPS Registration
Registration for 4-year-old Pre-K and 5K at Barnwell Primary School will be held the following dates from 8 to 11 a.m. in building 1: Feb. 12-15 for 4 Pre-K; Feb. 20-22 for 4 Pre-K & 5 K; March 26-29 for 4 Pre-K & 5 K; and April 24-26 for 4 Pre-K & 5K. Children must be four or five years old on or before Sept. 1, 2013.

Kelly Edwards Elementary School will host a "Family Movie Night" on Thursday, Jan. 31, at 5 p.m. The movie "Madagascar 3: Europe's Most Wanted" will be shown in the KE Gym. There will be concessions available for purchase.

Benefit Bank
Kelly Edwards Elementary School will host a SC Benefit Bank session on Thursday, Jan. 31, at 4 p.m. Family members of KEES students with incomes of $60,000 or below will be allowed to prepare and file their income tax returns free of charge. A SC Benefit Bank representative will also be on-site to advise of other supplemental programs that families may qualify for based upon income eligibility.

KEES Registration
Registration for 4-year-old kindergarten and 5-year-old kindergarten at Kelly Edwards Elementary will be held until Feb. 8. Children must be four or five years old on or before Sept. 1, 2013.
