A 32-year-old burglary suspect is facing two additional charges in the Jan. 31 incident which led to a brief lockdown of all Barnwell District 45 schools.
In addition to charges of petit larceny, first degree burglary, and pointing and presenting a firearm, Frank V. Nelams of Barnwell, is now facing charges of possession of a firearm during commission of a violent crime and contributing to the delinquency of a minor, said Barnwell Police Chief Todd Gantt.
Nelams and an unidentified 13-year-old are accused of entering an Elberta Circle home and taking several items. One of them was armed with a gun, which was later found in the juvenile's possession, according to the incident report.
Since the incident happened near Barnwell Primary, the four District 45 schools were locked down until Nelams was arrested less than 30 minutes later, said Gantt.
Nelams has been released to the Barnwell County Detention Center, while the juvenile is in the custody of the Department of Juvenile Justice.
