A Barnwell man is in jail accused of assaulting and holding a woman against her will.
Barnwell County sheriff's deputies arrested Richard Jordan Moody after responding to his 661 Garden Road residence Feb. 17 for a reported assault. The 44-year-old is charged with kidnapping and criminal domestic violence, third or more offense, according to his arrest report provided by the Barnwell County Sheriff's Office.
The charges come after a deputy heard a woman screaming, which contradicted Moody's prior statement that the victim was not there. Moody was detained after slamming the door in the deputy's face, states the report.
A search of the house led deputies to a hole in the floor of a bedroom closet that leads under the house, where the victim was found, according to the report.
The victim said Moody told her to get in the hole after he allegedly assaulted and dragged her across the yard. He told her "he will kill her before he (would) go back to jail," states the report.
Moody was released to the Barnwell County Detention Center.
