Mary Ann Kirkland

Mary Ann Kirkland, 84, of Blackville, died Feb. 7, 2009 at the Aiken Regional Medical Center after an extended illness.

Funeral service was held Feb. 12 at Mt. Zion Baptist Church, Lees, with the Revs. Freddie L. Wright and Miller officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery. Green's Funeral Home of Blackville was in charge of the arrangements.
Mrs. Kirkland was born May 25, 1924 in Bamberg County. She as the daughter of the late Clint and Annaliza Reed Salley. She was a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church and a dedicated member of the usher board and fulfilled many other duties as requested.

Survivors include her children, James (Shirley) Kirkland of Blackville, Robert (Diane) Kirkland of Conway, Teresa (Charlie) Lipford of Aiken and Carrie (James) Hammonds of Windsor; three sisters, Mary Davis of Blackville, Janice Salley of New York and Martha Smalls of Jacksonville, Fla.; one brother, Izell (Mamie) Salley of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.; one sister-in-law, Modene Salley of Columbia; an adopted daughter, Bessie (Roosevelt) Elmore; a special nephew and niece, James and Earline Smalls of Norway; a special granddaughter, Barbara Williams of Blackville; 23 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren and a host of other nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
