Harry Lee O'Bannon Jr.
Funeral service was held Feb. 18 at the Barnwell Presbyterian Church with the Rev. David Turner officiating.
Burial was in the Barnwell Baptist Cemetery (The Old Red Hill Cemetery). Mole Funeral Home of Barnwell was in charge of arrangements.
Mr. O'Bannon was born Sept. 19, 1922 in Barnwell. He was the son of H. L. O'Bannon, Sr. and Bessie Cleveland Palmore O'Bannon. He was called for service to his country, serving in the Army Air Corps during WWII as an aircraft technician in the India Theater.
After the war he was graduated from the University of South Carolina with a degree in business administration and became an ardent Gamecock fan He first married Joyce Shelby in 1951 and was a loving husband until her death in 1976.
In 1979 he married Zelda King Eaves. She was a devoted wife and cared for him during his illness with deep devotion. She preceded him in death by three months. He was involved in the Barnwell business community in insurance and real estate for most of his career. He was a loyal member and Past Post Commander of the Richardson-Walsh Post of the American Legion He was a loyal member of the Barnwell Baptist Church for over 50 years and then a member and Elder in the Barnwell Presbyterian Church until his death. He was a member of the choir and loved to sing and bring joy to others.
Survivors include two nieces, Lee Scarborough (Michael) Hughes of North and Gay Scarborough (James) Grimes of Baton Rouge, Louisiana; one nephew, David Scarborough Jr. of North; one stepson, Jeffery King (Renee) Eaves of Chapin; two grandchildren; great nieces and nephews; great great nephews and one great niece.
In Lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to the Barnwell Presbyterian Church fund to feed the homeless.
