Grace Barnes - Williston
Grace Traylor (Winn) Barnes of Williston entered into rest on April 7, 2017.
Services will be held at 3 p.m. on Tuesday, April 11, 2017 at the Folk Funeral Home chapel, Williston with Dr. Beth Yarborough and Reverend Edgar Foster officiating. The family will receive friends prior to the funeral at 2 p.m. with interment following at the Williston Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Williston Presbyterian Church, P.O. Box 391, Williston, SC 29853.
Pallbearers will be Roger Winn Jr., Tedmond Melton, Tommy Burton, James Hewitt, Norman Duncan, and James New.
Born on May 5, 1927 in Shelton, Grace was the daughter of the late Thomas Cleveland Traylor and Fannie Louise (Feaster) Traylor. She was an active member of the Williston Presbyterian Church for 41 years, serving as a Church Elder, a member of the Music and Worship Committee, and President of Presbyterian Women. Mrs. Barnes was a licensed cosmetologist, graduating from the Columbia School of Beauty, retiring as a school aide from the South Carolina School System in 1992. She graduated from Monticello High School, Class of 1944, where she served as team captain of the girls basketball team.
During her high school years, classmates selected Grace as an outstanding athlete, naming her the “spark plug” of the Girls basketball team. She was known to have a smile for everyone and friends by the dozens. Grace enjoyed serving others whether it be family, friends, or anyone she encountered in life. She was known for her energetic work ethic, unending generosity, and love for the Lord, church, and family. Grace received the most joy from being a mother and grandmother. She also enjoyed being outdoors, gardening, cooking, and completing household tasks in excellence. Grace was known as “Nannie” to all.
Grace is survived by her son, Roger Kenneth Winn (Debbie) of Lexington, and a daughter, Susan Winn Ridgeway (David) of Aiken; a grandson, Roger Kenneth Winn Jr. (Bess) of Columbia; and three granddaughters, Laura Elizabeth Winn of Lexington; Ashley Elizabeth Ridgeway of Aiken; and Jessica Brooke R. Melton (Tedmond) of Aiken; one great-grandson, Walker James Winn; one sister, Betty Knotts of Williston and a number of nieces and nephews. In addition, Grace was predeceased by her husbands, Roger E. Winn and Raymond L. Barnes; two brothers, Thomas H. Traylor and Donald E. Traylor; and three sisters, Emily Cooper of Columbia, Mary Alice Stevenson of Union, and Wilma Duncan of Flat Rock, N.C.
