Lottie Mae Hammonds - Barnwell
Mrs. Lottie Mae Hammonds, the daughter of the late Betty L. Barfield and the late Burnell Brown, was born on July 29, 1947 in Barnwell County. She departed this earthly life on Wednesday, May 24, 2017 at the Regional Medical Center in Orangeburg.
Lottie Mae became a member of St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church at an early age. She served as President of the Usher Board. She was educated in the public schools of Barnwell County and graduated from Butler High School.
She retired from Milliken Company (Barnwell plant) and also was employed at Sara Lee until its closing. Lottie Mae enjoyed her family, dancing, and watching her favorite television shows.
Lottie Mae was preceded in death by her mother and father; her son, Sedrick D. Hammonds; two sisters, Betty L. Edwards and Kaye F. Odom; and many other loving family members whom she’ll reunite with in heaven.
She leaves to cherish her memories: her husband, William Hammonds Jr. of the home; son and daughter-in-law, William A. and Felicia Hammonds III of Barnwell; sisters, Annie (James) Robinson of Jersey City, N.J., Wilhelmina (Julius) Thompson of Salley, Cleo Barfield of Barnwell, Julia B. Tupper of North Augusta, Evelyn Peeples of Columbia, Cathy Williams of Barnwell, Cherry Jones and Melissa Aiken, both of Allendale; two brothers, Carl Peeples of Blackville and Vandy (Velma) Bates of Hollywood, Fla.; goddaughter, Audrey Smith; sisters-in-law, Janet (David) Terry, Dorothy Burris, Juliet Washington, Helen Reaves and Evangelist Gwendolyn (Pastor McKinley) Neal; aunts, Elizabeth (Johnny) Sanders, Laura Williams and Rosanna Washington; uncle, Ernest (Ozell) Miller; a best friend, Willie Dale Fields; and a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
Homegoing services were held on Sunday, May 28, 2017 at 2 p.m. at St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church in Snelling. Her nephews and great nephews served as pallbearers while nieces and great nieces were floral bearers. Committal, benediction and interment followed at Jordan Baptist Church Cemetery in Barnwell.
Lebby Funeral Home of Barnwell assisted the family with arrangements.
