Richard Lee Workman - Barnwell
Deacon Richard Lee Workman, 62, of Barnwell, was born to the late Mr. Leon & Gertrude Workman on November 6, 1954.
At an early age, Deacon Workman was baptized and became a member of Morris Chapel Baptist Church. Deacon Workman later dedicated his life back to the Lord and joined Greater Faith Ministries. Up until the time of his declining health, you could find him on security, driving the van, collecting the offerings or working on the family life center. He was a faithful servant.
Deacon Richard lived up to his name. He was truly a “work –man”. Handy work and small construction were his expertise. When he was not building or repairing, Deacon Richard enjoyed fishing, horseshoes and spending time with his family and friends.
On June 7, 2017, Deacon Richard Workman gained victory over cancer and entered into eternal rest at his home. His wife of 32 years, Vivian B., and his sister, Vivian J (Bit), were both by his side. Deacon Workman was strong in his faith and is now waiting on that triumphant sound to rise and be with the Lord.
To cherish his memory, he leaves his devoted wife, Vivian Burroughs Workman, along with her five children that he raised and loved as his own: Denise Dukes and her husband Jimmie of Acworth, Ga.; Roberta Bellinger of Thomson, Ga.; Bernard Burroughs and his wife Carol of Barnwell; Tonya Banner and her fiancé Rico Chisolm of Jacksonville, Fla.; Pastor Angel Williams and her husband Apostle Antonio of Augusta, Ga.; 20 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and a special goddaughter, Kathleen Dickerson. He also leaves the following loving siblings: Jimmy (Mary) Workman, Harold (Tammie) Workman Sr.; Leroy Workman; Sandra Mintz and Vivian J, all of Barnwell; five brothers and sisters-in-laws: Charles (Grace) Burroughs and Barbara Virgle of Philadelphia, Pa., Rev. Virginia Priester and James Burroughs of Barnwell, and Deacon David Burroughs of Augusta, Ga.; four uncles: Joseph
Hogg, Peter Hogg, James (Barbara) Patterson, William (Sharon) Patterson; two aunts: Shirley (Richard) Robinson of Barnwell, and Nellie Mae Hogg of Buffalo, New York; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
He is preceded in death by his brother, James Workman; his sister, Alberta
Workman; his aunts: Tommie Jean Brown, Marie Patterson & Pearlie Mae Power; and his uncle, Clemon Patterson.
A Celebration of Life Service was held on Thursday, June 14, 2017 at 2 p.m. at Greater Faith Ministries (179 Calhoun Street, Barnwell) with Chief Apostle Belton Williams as eulogist and Apostle Antonio Williams as presider.
