Thomas Hamilton - Barnwell
Mr. Thomas Hamilton, aka “Tom”, age 68, was born on May 21, 1949 in Barnwell to the late Henry Hamilton and the late Jessie Cave Hamilton.
Seeking God’s direction and guidance, at an early age, he joined the Union United Methodist Church in Kline where he served as an usher for many years. He also was one of the officers serving on the Trustee Committee in 1981 when the Educational Building was built. He received his education at the Guinyard Butler School in Barnwell and worked at Shuron Textile for many years and later went to work for Milliken Textile as a machine operator in Barnwell where he retired. He was one of the first original members of the Big Seven Association and the Cypros Softball Team in Barnwell, and he played and coached the M&M Cypress Pros Baseball team for many years. He coached the Little League baseball team in the community for many years and served as a volunteer firefighter for the Kline community for many years.
“Tom”, as he was affectionately known, will be remembered for the love he had for his family and friends, and he will be missed by all those who knew and loved him.
He was married to the late Jeanette Priester Hamilton for 43 years, and in this union, they were blessed with three children.
Besides his parents and grandparents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Jeanette Priester Hamilton; seven brothers, James Myers, Homey, Eugene, Henry, Joseph, Larry and David Hamilton; and four sisters, Jessie Myers, Elouise Hankerson, Mattie L. and Sally Hamilton.
Our Heavenly Father called him from labor to reward on July 13, 2017 in Aiken.
He leaves to cherish his beautiful memory: one daughter, Carrie P. (Anthony) Williams of Columbia; two sons, Thomas Priester of Fayetteville, N.C. and Christopher Hamilton of Gainesville, Ga.; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; four sisters, Jenny Jennings of Jacksonville, Fla., Verna Moore of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., Mary Lee Hamilton of Athens, Ga., and Ima (Eddie) Cornelius of Atlanta, Ga.; father-in-law, Henry (Elease Buxton) Priester of Allendale; eight brothers-in-law, Henry (Claretha) Priester, James (Ida) Priester, Leroy (Richardean) Priester, Benjamin Priester, Johnny (Amanda) Priester and Wallace Priester, all of Allendale, John Priester and Bishop Michaell (Annette) Priester of Jacksonville, Fla.; three sisters-in-law, Mary Ann Priester of Barnwell, Henrietta P. O’Berry of Allendale, and Lydia Myers of Blackville; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and sympathizing friends.
The visitation was held Friday, July 21, 2017, at the Dyches Funeral Home in Barnwell from noon to 1 p.m.
The funeral service was held at noon on Saturday, July 22, 2017, at the Union United Methodist Church in Kline with words of comfort by Rev. Warren Murdock Sr. The burial followed in the church cemetery.
The family also received friends at the home located at 91 Pallet Lane in Barnwell.
B.F. Cave Funeral Home in Allendale was in charge of arrangements.
