Grace Maude Jackson Tripp (Barnwell)
Grace Maude Jackson Tripp, 85, of Barnwell, entered into rest on Wednesday, September 6, 2017 at her home surrounded by friends and caregivers.
Grace was born at North Pharsalia, N.Y. on June 5, 1932, the daughter of the late Leslie M Jackson and Maude Violet Ellsworth Jackson. She graduated in 1950 from Truxton High School in New York.
Grace met her beloved husband, Donald R. Tripp, when they worked together for the Chesebrough-Ponds Co. of Oriskany, N.Y. and married on October 8, 1966 in Oneida, N.Y. After Don went into long haul trucking, he taught Gracie how to drive. She was the first woman in New York state to test for and get a commercial driver’s license. They went on the road as a team for 20 years covering the United States and parts of Canada. Their last employment leading in to retirement in 1989 was driving for Chem-Nuclear Systems in Barnwell.
Grace enjoyed taking care of her home, gardening, cooking and baking. Grace was also an excellent seamstress and made many of her own clothes. She taught vegan cooking classes at the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Aiken where she was a member of several years. She and Don rescued and cared for several dogs over the years that were precious to them.
She was predeceased by her parents; her beloved husband, Donald R. Tripp; a baby boy; a brother, Fred Leslie Jackson; and a sister, Marion Jackson Underwood. Survivors include nieces, nephews and cousins.
