Robert Jacobs (Barnwell)
Mr. Robert Jacobs departed this life Tuesday, December 19, 2017 at his home.
Born on September 26, 1926, he was the son of the late Robert and Ellen Jacobs. At an early age he joined the Bethlehem Baptist Church and remained active until his illness.
Jacobs was a Navy veteran who devotedly served his country as a chef during World War II.
He was joined in matrimony to Virgie Jacobs who preceded him in death. To this union nine children were born. Three preceded him in death: Terrence, Ada, and Phyllis Jacobs.
He is survived by six children, including four daughters: Barbara (Joseph) Daniels of Aiken, Evelyn Jacobs Ford, Vanessa Jacobs, and Mary (Brooker) Simmons, all of Barnwell; and two sons, Gregory (Ethel) Jacobs of Barnwell, and Eddie Jacobs of Springfield. He is also survived by three sisters-in-law: Ann Jane Roundtree of Sumter, Ivory Roundtree of Jersey City, New Jersey, and Bernice Roundtree of Patterson, New Jersey; 25 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Homegoing service was held Friday, December 22, 2017 at 11 a.m. at Bethlehem Missionary Baptist Church in Barnwell with Pastor Harold Shepherd officiating. His granddaughters served as flower bearers while his grandsons were pallbearers. Committal, benediction and invaultment followed at Hope Memorial Park on Yale Road in Barnwell.
